recieving line

how are you guys doing yours? ive only ever seen 2...and one was an outside wedding..soo it doesnt help me.. the other one was where the bridal party stood at the front of the church and the church ushers called each pew up and had each one come up row by row to greet everyone, then they were escorted out, and made a *tunnel* so when the bride/groom came out they had a tunnel to go through..

any thoughts?

how are you doing yours?

Re: recieving line

  • I stole this idea from someone else and we're doing an outdoor wedding so it might not work for you.

After our ceremony, we and the BP will walk back up the "aisle" (it's a path through the park). Just after we pass where the guests are, we will step off the path and walk a few steps away from it. BP will continue on to the end of the path and not be part of the receiving. Then guests can stop and chat with FI and I on their way out but it doesn't bottle neck and no one HAS to be "received" if they don't want to.

You don't have to do a receiving line. But if you don't, you need to make sure you visit each table at the reception and say hello to everyone in person.

  • We were going to stand out front of the church and have my parents first, then H and I, then MIL and FIL. But it was drizzling so we ended up standing at the door of the church (under the overhang) and greeted our guests as they came out of the church and then my parents stood next to us, but H's parents were not in the receiving line, but I think they greeted guests from a different spot. I am actually not even sure if H told his parents we were doing a receiving line...

You don't have to do one, but I chose to because I didn't want to worry about getting around to all of the tables during the reception. This way it was a guarantee I would say hello to all of the guests.

  • We're doing one with just FI and me. We are going to walk back down the aisle and step into the narthex (the entrance hallway) to receive guests, but we will stand away from the door so that if guests want to leave the building they are able to.

  • we did just my husband and I before people entered the reception area. Cocktail hour was just in the front lobby. Then we opened the doors and as people came in to find their seats we greeted them.

  • We only have about 107 guests so we are going to do table visits during dinner. We're having a buffet so it should work out fine because we will get to eat first.
