Just picked our date and booked the venue!

Hi Ladies!!

After much back and forth with family we have finally settled on a date so it looks like I will be joining all you lovely June 2013 brides. Yay!

I usually post on the DW board as we are getting married in CA and are from WI but figured I'd check in with everyone who is on a similar timeline for planning.

Our venue is mostly all-inclusive so by bookng we have a caterer, dj, officiant and cake lady set. We get to choose from a couple of photographers and florists (we have some clear favorites so we just have to email to confirm that!) and hopefully we will have that nailed down by next week.

FI and I have been together forever and are really excited for our big day!

Next up is dress shopping - which I am dreading - not sure what else I should be getting done at this point.

I've pinned like a billion things to my wedding boards on pintrest but other than that I haven't really come up with a specific look that I want yet. I guess I should start thinking about that too.

Don't stress too much about dress shopping, there are styles and shapes out there for everyone.  I'm more stressed about looking my best in it after purchase. Good luck!

It's a Monday which is a little weird but it worked out best mostly due to family requests / restrictions / other obligations. We're hoping to have everyone out in CA for the whole weekend before the wedding to do wine tasting tours / San Diego stuff. (we are getting married in Temecula)

Welcome! And Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I am, also, a Cali Bride (getting married in Santa Monica). Temecula Wine Country is a fantastic place to plan your wedding! And it's proximity to San Diego is perfect for all your extra excursions. Plus, June is a lovely time of year in both areas so I think you and your family/friends from Wisconsin will really enjoy it!

About dress shopping... don't mean to burst your bubble, but you need to get crackin! The recommended timeline for ordering a wedding gown is 8 months, which is now! This allows for a 5 to 6 month turn around time from the manufacturers + 2 to 3 months for alterations. 

Don't get too freaked out, it's not nearly as bad as you think. I too, was absolutely dreading trying anything on. In fact, just the idea of a white wedding dress really had me stressed... How was going to look? I didn't feel ready to see myself in one (felt too fat and flabby). But you know what? I faced my fear and went with my Mom and best friend. I tried on a about 12 gowns and I looked amazing in just about all of them. I couldn't believe it! I ended up finding my dress the first trip out and ordering it a few weeks later. I am planning (and actively working) to lose weight and get toned up before my dress comes in (alterations should be minimal based on the dress style). 

All that being said, my advice is to dive right in! Try on different silhouettes to see what works best on you. Try different materials (e.g. lace, chiffon, tulle, satin, organza, etc.) and also different veil styles. You never know what is going to look good until you try it and you may be surprised what you end up falling in love with.

Congratulations on getting a date set and the venue booked.  It's so nice that everything is pretty much included in your package.  California sounds wonderful!  My fiance and I are planning a "destination" wedding as well.  We are from Nebraska, but are getting married at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.  We are hoping that our families will make a little vacation for their families as well!

Congrats! Don't stress too much with the dress shopping, try on everything you want, and don't feel pressured to choose a dress during your first trip! Since it takes a while for dresses to be made, you're right to make it your next priority. Good luck!

Hello!  I have been on theknot since a couple days after we were engaged (December 2011) and I cannot for the life of me find an easy way to maneuver around the Boards in order to get to know people.  Can you tell me the name of the Facebook group? I know you said there is a sticky on top of the board...but I don't even know where in heck to find the sticky :) Thanks! Katie
