Re: Wedding Wednesday

  • I spoke with my new coordinator breifly. We'll be setting up our details meeting for after the new year and hopefully a tasting prior to that.

I started putting together a details list for our venue/coordinator and a must have photos list for our photographer.

I drove about ten of the forty mile wine trail I live on and collected corks for making escort cards. I got about half of what I need, so I'll go again in a few weeks. I love getting free things. For how much this weddings going to cost, free corks are a god send.

I asked my close friend to be a reader. She said yes and I'm very excited about it.

I'm putting my contract and deposit for my boudoir photo shoot in the mail Friday.

    We've started looking at invitations.

FI has started looking at suits.

My mom and I are going to a florist appointment Friday.

My cake appointment got pushed back to a week from today, but that's fine by me.

  • Shhhh, don't say that we're running out of time, I have too much stuff to do!!

I'm mailing in the deposit for our florist today and we finalized the tux rental stuff, since I picked bridesmaids dresses last weekend. I couldn't get vests that matched the dresses exactly (a deep teal), so the groomsmen will be wearing grey suits with grey vests and ties, and my fiance will have an ivory vest and tie. I'm hoping that there's going to be enough fabric left from alterations to the dresses so that I can use it to make pocket squares for the guys. Considering all of my bridesmaids are 5'3" and shorter (shortest bridesmaids ever), there's a good chance there will be enough material left over.

My fiance set up an appointment with our caterer the other day, so we'll be meeting with them in a few weeks. I'm planning to do some more research on invitations this weekend, and I'd like to start getting the outline for our ceremony in place. We'll see how that goes.
  • It's so exciting that we're getting so close!
     Smile I'm so excited!!!!!!!!

Anyways now onto what I'm trying to accomplish.

I've been putting together the details of our wedding timeline for our D.J., Photographer and Wedding Coordinator. (Someone from our venue that kind of tries to help organize things a little that day).

We hope to go down and meet with our reception place to see the prices of hor'dourves sometime soon.

Our latest invitation samples that we're looking at should be on their way here any day now.

We still need to send out our Save the Dates. We've really been procrastinating that...

We also need to go down and put the deposit on our cake order as well.

I hope to finish putting together our flower order so that can be made sometime soon.

  • I haven't been doing much lately with the wedding. I did however order our invitations on Friday!!! They are supposed to be here this Friday and I can't wait to see how they look in person!

I'm slowly getting my bridesmaid to go in and get sized for their dress. We won't order until Dec. It's always hard when you have BM's in 3 different places!

Other than that I haven't done anything lately. I hate this lull in the planning! After being engaged for over a year now I'm like ok lets just get married already! I'm def ready for the day to be here!

  • We are booking photographer and DJ this weekend.
Also dragging FI to look at suits because if we commit to using a certain place by the end of the month, they give us his suit and all the vests and shoes for free. We are doing different shoes but I'm wondering if we can negotiate for ties and pocket squares instead...

I'm talking to a florist and hydrangeas instead of peonies saves us about 50%... but when I close my eyes and imagine the day of I keep seeing peonies.... *sigh*

Called the church because it dawned on me they will be talking about Vacation Bible Study that week and they usually place a 1/2 of a Jeep against one wall so it looks like it's crashing in... They said it's too soon to say but they can't guarantee anything...
That's stressful, incorporating a JEEP into my "elegant country chic" ceremony decor. I'll be buying some thick white sheets just in case to cover it up... or whatever other crazy decorations they have...
Can't help but feel annoyed FI really wanted to get married in our home church but I don't really like anything about it... It's large, modern and has 3 huge projection screens hanging right over the stage and stacks of speakers. Nothing like the little catholic church I imagined... Also the main pastor I love (and only reason I attend this particular church) doesn't do weddings and the pastor we chose second recent left abruptly and they won't tell us who exactly is going to marry us. /rant

  • Don't say we're running out of time! It's making me feel like I'm behind!

Here are the big things I need to get around to in the next month or 2:

    - Finalize the BM dress choice
    - Get FI in to a tux shop to pick his attire (and the groomsmen)
    - Figure out centerpieces. Is this going to be a DIY project?
    - Pick a DJ and sign the darn contract!

Thank goodness my mom is coming for Thanksgiving and we'll be able to talk over some of my ideas.
  • Haven't done too much lately, since all the big stuff is done.  I mailed the florist deposit on the way to work this morning, had been procrastinating on that for about a week.  We met with the pastor at the church we are getting married at on Monday and he gave us the book to choose all our readings and prayers.  Now we just have to go through it and pick which ones we want.
I need to call our venue and set up a tasting for after the holidays.  After we do that, we can order invitations.

Mee, have you looked into Sahara roses and cabbage roses? Both are very full, fluffy roses that will give the same overall look as peonies. I want a fluffly, peony-like bouquet, so I'm using a mix of limonium, Sahara roses, hydrangeas, and Queen Anne's lace since peonies are so costly.
  • I'm meeting with a few florists in the next week. The one florist I talked to over the phone said it takes twice as many cabbage roses as peonies so the cost evens out. But I could definitely go with the cabbage roses- they look almost identical!!

  • We've decided to wait until FI moves here in April to get a suit/tux and to pick out wedding bands. Other than that, we just have to pay everything.

I really need to find a new hobby.

  • We have accomplished the following checks so far:

    - sent a second payment to our venue (now we only have the final payment which is due the day of the wedding);
    - finally mailed out most of the save-the-dates (still waiting for FI to get some of his family addresses :/);
    - finalized our guest list - basically everyone we sent save-the-dates to.

I think that's about it for now.

  • No big checks here. I wrote up a lost for my bridal shower to give my mom so she has an idea of how many people would be invited and can start to decide where she wants to have it. Because of the hurricane, our venue won't be back up and running till around Feb so I can't do anything there. I went and tried on my dress, but the sample of it, because they needed more measurements. It was fun to try it on again since I haven't since April. And either one night this wk or sat morning I want to go to a few dress shops and look at some BM dressessso I cab get an idea of what's out there before I go with my girls next weekend. I haven't made any appts though, so I hope that's not a problem. I need to get the ball rolling.

  • Running out of time? I just got started! LOL. Actually, I feel like we have a lot of time now that we're pushing it back a full month (originally wanted May 25th but ideal budget venue said no to holiday weekend, and bro couldn't get there from China) We've got 226 days after all :)

That said, I am doing everything short of starting a conflict with my parents to get them to CALL the venue and confirm our date is available. Long story as to why they have to do that for me (special pricing through a friend, etc) but it is torturing me to not have a date and venue. The basics. So if I can have those this week, I'll be thrilled.

I already have a photog with awesome pricing but as soon as we have a venue, I will be pushing them to send him his deposit (he's still available on our desired date as of today).

I've advanced on other things that I CAN do on my own. I had MOH order and try on a dress. No go on colors (company changed color charts between order and delivery!) and went through whole customer complaint to get a refund and now am waiting for color samples to decide on that but options narrowed.

I've been shopping for a dress-maker here in Peru. Getting an idea of prices, quality, and options, before I go try on dresses in the US so I know whether to get custom here or buy one there (budget issues for my dress prefs- ahh!).

We did find someone who will make beautiful custom ties to gift GMs for $3 each There are SOME advantages to living in the developing world. We plan to get them engraved cuff links too. LIttle things that are easier than the big things!

I'm also shopping for a style. haha. I keep getting comments from my mom when I like vintage things because cobalt, teal, and turquoise are intense colors while most vintage weddings are all distressed pastels etc. It's also a beach sunrise wedding but formal.  And our TBC reception venue is a Latin-themed hotel with formal decor. So I have this vague idea of formal Spanish pearls and lace. Trying to develop it my scouring real weddings but keep getting more confused because what I picture no one else has done:( To do: decide style.

Whelp, I'm way behind ya'll but it'll get done and we'll all be married!! :)

(I totally Lol'd about the jeep. Makes me glad I'm not getting married in my home church or that type of decor would be entirely possible!)

  • Let's see...

My dress came in! I called the lady who does the alterations for the bridal salon and left a message to make an appointment since apparently she books up fast in the spring.

STD's went out today. I finally got the last address from my father, it only took him a month!

We decided on our cake, I should be sending the deposit this weekend.

We also booked a suite at the Biltmore in Providence for the night before and night of our wedding, now I've just got to do a few hotel blocks and get transportation situated.

We also booked our "Frank Sinatra type" singer for the cocktail and diner hours so now FI Ihas to go back and bargain with the DJ since he will not be doing any work for two whole hours.

We're going to our venue for a bridal expo on Sunday so I'm looking forward to tasting the food. Then we are planning to go to BB&B to register.

I've already gotten most of the reception details such as linens ans chairs and stuff settled with our DOC. So I'm feeling pretty good. Now I have to start all the DIY stuff.

  • Geez, reading how far you guys are ahead of me almost gives me anxiety attacks lol!

FI put the deposit down on the venue. They are catering it too so no worries about food for now, I'll probably let FI do that anyway. I think I've found my dress. I cried when I put it on but Mom wasn't there to see so we have to go back and see it in person. That and I'm torn between it and another dress.

I'm struggling to pick out colors. I originally wanted yellow and orange for an outdoor wedding but we aren't doing that anymore and his family thinks I've lost my mind. So now I'm stuck between silver/gold/champange and teal/ivory cream. I don't know how to decide.

In two weeks I'm going on a two week business trip and am starting to get a little panicky on how much time I'm going to lose while I'm gone. I need to get cracking on a baker, florist, dj and photographer.

  • Not much done.... Got our wedding bands this past weekend! Which is exciting! And I will be going next wednesday to look for another bridesmaids dress since the last 2 we picked out were discontinued and we can't get the dresses in their sizes! It's driving me nuts and I cant wait until they all have purchased their dresses
