BM dress shopping

Ok so I know a few of you already have your BM dresses done but did you go just to pick out or did everyone order already? I'm trying to figure out when to go because I want to give them time if they don't have the money right away to save. Mainly my sister, she's a single parent and her and both her girls are in the BP so she will have to purchase 3 dresses. She and my oldest niece (22) will be my MOH's and the 4 year old my flower girl. I don't want them to think they have to order just because we pick the dress but I'd like to give my sister a heads up on how much the dresses will be.

What do you think?

Re: BM dress shopping

  • Just go shopping, pick out the dress you'd like them to order, then she'll know exactly how much she needs to save and can order them when she can afford it. I've gone BM dress shopping twice and have picked out the dress I plan to have them order. BM dresses are supposed to be ordered 4-6 months out, so you really don't need to order them until January-March-ish. My girls know what dress they need to order and in January I'll tell them all go order it at their ready. Although, from the sounds of the way my MOH was talking last weekend, it sounds like all my girls have a FB chat that I'm not privvy to where she's getting their input on things like showers and the b-party. She mentioned that she would let everyone know the exact dress/designer/style number/color and when to order them when we finalized the decision together.

  • I agree with cnf. I went once with my girls, but my MOH is pregnant, so we'll go in the fall, giving her a few months to recover and right before we have to order to pick out her dress and get her measured. I have some chesty girls, so I am allowing them to pick either the dress we chose at the appointment or choose a different style, but in our color and fabric. I know not one dress will flatter all my sizes my girls have....well except my size 0 girl! Lol.

That's so funny, my MOH is pregnant, too! She is not due until December though, so we'll probably go BM dress shopping in early spring so that she gets a chance to recover, just like ash said. I also haven't even made a final decision on who my BMs (besides my MOH) would be though, a lot of my close friends are in Russia, and not sure if they can afford to come here since the tickets are so expensive. :( But once I know who my girls are, I will let them chat with my MOH and decide what they want to do as far as dresses, so that they can start saving up the money if needed.

  • My BP already pretty much decided on the dresses they want so we just have to try them on and find out how much they will cost. I only have the three mentioned above and one BM who happens to be my best girl friend and our hairdresser so she's friends with my sister too. They all decided on a dress and I love it but they are all going to alter it to have different "sleeves" I guess you can say. My sister wants to cover her shoulders and my niece wants on shoulder my other BM is just going strapless so really price is the only issue other then finding a flower girl dress I like. I'm going to schedule an appointment the beginning of July so we can make sure it all works.

  • Belle, how old is the flower girl if you don't mind me asking? I've heard that for the younger (under 6ish I'd say) crowd a good place and time to look for dresses is at the department stores after "dressy" holidays (Christnas, Easter). That way they have a lot of super cute dresses for cheap, and some of them really look the same as the more expensive once in bridal boutiques.

  • She will be a month away from turning 5. Wow I almost forgot how old she was because she already acts like a teenager lol. That's a great idea Ana I never thought of that. I don't like the traditional look of the flower girls when they are dressed as mini brides so I'm worried about finding a dress I actually like for her.

  • My plan is to go with my girls at the end of the summer so everyone can pick a dress they like and I can make sure they all kind of flow together at least. I'm just giving them a color an length and they can pick what they're comfortable in. Once they pick te dress they can order it whenever they want. I want to make sure they have enough time to save and I'd want them to have it ordered by January but since that's right around the holidays I don't want to ask anyone to put out more cash for a dress then. So I figured if they picked one in the fall they could order it anytime between SeptemberJanuary when they had the money.

  • I plan on trying to get most of my girls together next month for dress shopping. I've got a pretty good idea in mind of what I want for them, but my girls range from a size 00 to a 14, so I really need to see what looks best on them. Once I get that figured out, then I'm going to tell them that they need to order x dress in x color, and I'll probably tell them they need to have it done around mid-January.
  • My niece (MOH #2) decided she found a dress she wants to wear to the wedding. I just have to post the link because I think it's hilarious. http://www.semiformal-dresses.org/chiffon-sweetheart-neckline-with-beaded-oneshoulder-strap-rouched-column-prom-dress-nm46-p-1811/ She knows I want purple and flowing and I told her she can wear one shoulder but I think she's on drugs lol Thank goodness I know she's joking!
