Any suggestions for good things to do in Detroit? FI and I will be driving through on our honeymoon.

  • This is a great list thank you so much! I really appreciate all of this. I probably would have just driven through if I hadn't talked to someone who lived there first because with my luck I'd end up in the worst part of the city.

  • Thank you for the link. I haven't heard of that. I usually use  http://www.roadsideamerica.com/ and just look at the maps.

[QUOTE]Hey! A few of my favorite things to do are either anything downtown (seriously... there are so many bad views of the city of Detroit, but downtown is seriously so great).  There's the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), Greektown (there's a casino and a ton of greek restaurants, it's right at the heart of the city), the people mover is a fun thing to do to get a quick circle tour of the city (you don't even have to get out!), or check out Comerica Park or Ford Field (right next to eachother, where the Tigers and Lions play respectively).  A little outside of the main downtown area are two more casinos (MGM and Motor City. MGM's casino is better, but Iridescence, a restaurant at Motor City, is OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZEBALLS) Things just south of Detroit are The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, both in Dearborn on the same piece of property.  The HF Museum has all old cars and the evolution of the automobile, and other Americana type stuff, and Greenfield Village is like a pioneer village... you can watch "pioneers" blow glass, make horseshoes, candles, etc.  It's really fun. Also, if you look online for Detroit events, there's almost ALWAYS something going on downtown in Hart Plaza (right on the Detroit River, looking to Canada), or Campus Martius, festivals in parking lot of Comerica Park.. there is always stuff to do. Detroit is seriously my favorite city in the world.  I will be thinking about more stuff to suggest, but these are pretty standard things for tourists and residents alike!
