Today's Trauma

I always take my e-ring off when I take a shower and this morning was no exception. While I was getting ready to go to the office FI called and I got distracted from my routine and when I hung up I thought "oh yeah, must put my ring back on" since I would hate to forget it in the hotel room...

Well, I went to the sink where I normally would leave it (I know, prob not the best spot with the drain and everything)...and it wasn't there.  I panicked and started frantically searching the room.  I couldn't remember where I took it off and had an overwhelming feeling of nausea that it had gone down the drain or worse.  I tore apart my suitcase, started worrying about what I was going to tell FI...and then...

I picked up a newspaper and it landed on the counter...PHEW, panic over.

Has anyone else thought they lost their e-ring?  Did you tell your FI?  I don't think I'm going to tell mine...

Re: Today's Trauma

  • No but whenever I take it off in the bathroom I put it on a shelf far far away from the sink because that is one of my greatest fears!  Luckily FI had the ring appraised and insured before he even proposed because it traveled from east to west coast and he was afraid he would lose it before he gave it to me so if anything does happen the ring is covered.
  • I misplaced mine about a month ago. I normally take it off as soon as I get home from work, but one day, my fiance grabbed me as soon as I got in the door and asked me to give him a hand with a few things outside. I set my ring down on the patio table, thinking "this is a dumb place to put my ring", but I figured I wouldn't be outside long. I was out there longer than I expected, and I was totally distracted thinking about what to make for dinner. After dinner, I realized I had no idea where it was, and I started to tear the house apart. My fiance asked me what I was looking for, and I had to tell him. He wasn't amused, especially after I found it and he realized where I had put it. I was absolutely sick the whole time I was looking for it, but my goodness, I don't think I've ever been so relieved to find something.

  • I barely ever take mine off. Usually only to swim, do yard work, or ride my bike because it doesn't fit under my gloves. I put it in a ring box on my dresser. Before I got it sized down I would take it off to do dishes and I set it on the counter once and forgot to put it back on right away. Like ten minutes later I realized it wasn't on my hand and I never lost it. My heart skipped a beat. It's so scary!

  • I only take mine off to shower. I sleep in my rings (which I know I shouldn't). I have tan lines from them because I never take them off. I haven't lost my e-ring yet, but I did lose my promise ring yesterday. I woke up, and it was gone. I was so upset all day, but FI found it when he picked up a blanket last night. I can't imagine how I would feel if I had lost my e-ring!

  • I haven't had any scares with mine yet, and I do take it off sometimes - to shower, when I go to bed, or when I clean the bathroom (it feels weird under the gloves). I thought it would feel odd to have the ring on all the time since I've never been a ring person, but I got used to it super quick.

  • I take mine off all the time too. I dont shower with it on, do dishes, yardwork, sleep, cook, etc. I had a scare early on with mine because I left it on the kitchen counter under something, but it was definitely a moment of sheer panic. After that incident, FI went out and bought me a ring holder that I leave on our dresser in the bedroom, I always put it there even if it not convenient, because at least I will always know where it is.

  • I haven't actually ever had a time where I lost it.
But I do work my old job on Fridays, I manage a pizza hut, so I take it off when I am there.
I don't want it to get pizza junk in it. I always put my hands in my pockets and have gotten used to the resistance from my ring. EVERYTIME I go to put my hands in my pockets while at work there, I have like a mini heart attack. I feel my heart start to beat faster and I get all flushed, then I remember, hey dum dum you took it off. I can't imagine actually losing it.

  • I "misplaced" mine once but it was because when I do dishes I put it in a certain spot in the kitchen and I didn't put it in that place that time.

I have gone insanely crazy trying to find the claddagh ring my FI brought back from Ireland right after I got it (its wayy big!) and it was on the floor of my car the whole time. Luckily that was 2 years ago.
  • I always take my ring off at night. I have a little jewelry holder dish that I put it in, which I had been keeping on my nightstand. One morning I picked my ring up and dropped it, it bounced on the carpet and straight into the vent. I didn't panic at first because I assumed my vent had a catch in it...wrong. I opened the vent to find that it dropped directly down from the second floor of our house to the basement...ensue panic!! I had to leave for work so I called FI freaking out and told him what happened. He called me at work a few hours later to tell me that he had pryed the vent apart and found my ring, luckily it was unharmed. Needless to say, I moved my jewelry dish to a part of my room far away from amy vents!

  • Hahaha literally as I was reading this post I was like OH MY GOD WHERE IS MY RING?!?!  I take it off when I work out and I forgot to put it back on before my shower!  Thank goodness for this post, it was sitting on the coffee table but who knows how long that would have taken me to figure out that it wasn't on!

The good news is that I hardly ever take it off (only when I work out and when I clean the house), so I've never really lost it before.  The bad news is that I once wore it while rock climbing with my friends, and I definitely scratched the band.  It's also turing from white gold into not-so-white gold.  I was told at the jewelry store to have it re-dipped in gold to bring back the original color, and that most people have it re-dipped twice a year!  Has anyone ever done that before?

  • Phew, glad I'm not the only one.  I was so relieved to find it.

@KplusA--mine's platinum, so no dipping but I've heard that the redipping is different for everyone depending on the way your body reacts to the metal.

  • K, one of the girls I work with has her rings redipped every six months or so. I think it's also affected by wearing it while washing your hands (because of the soap) and wearing hand lotion. Most jewelers will do it for a small fee- I think my co-worker said she pays $25 or so to have it done. I think it's also recommended to have it dipped right before your wedding, so that it matches your wedding band.
  • K, I'm planning on having mine redipped once a year, if not more frequently, but I haven't needed to do that yet. It's complimentary from our company.

Never lost it, but if I did, I would tell FI. I hang mine every night on my perfume bottle and put it back on in the morning after my shower when I reach for my perfume. I take it off for bball and to do chores, and sometimes stick it on FI pinky while I change the kittens litter so that I remember to put it back on.

  • I haven't lost mine, but I am terrified I will! I have it insured, and I have a ring dish in my bedroom, carry the box in my giant purse, and have a cleaning solution/dish in the kitchen.  I take it off to sleep, work out and do dishes/baking stuff.  I used to sleep with it on, but apparently platinum bends a bit easily so I've already had to have a prong put back on the diamond.
