I've got a dress pet peeve!

Why can't the models simply be standing upright? Why must the photographer have them standing with hips at odd angles or draped over couches or, the worst, SITTING?! It's driving me nuts!

I wouldn't worry too much about the models, they don't have bodies like real women anyway. The best way to get an idea of what you like and what looks good on you is to go try dresses on. :

LOL I'm with you on that pet peeve!

There's one dress in particular I saw in a magazine, and it drove me NUTS trying to see what it looks like because the shot of the girl wearing it was sitting down. The thing that drove me to the dress was the bottom hem, looked pretty... so I found the dress online and it wasn't what I thought it would be Undecided

I figure once I go to the store and try them on, I'll really know what's best Smile

I agree with this pet peeve too.....what bride stands in any of those poses? The dress I bought is an allue coture, and the model is pale, sulking, and carrying those really dark almost black roses. She looks like she is attending a funeral but in a wedding dress. I don't understand it. They should be smiling and standing normal.

I agree with you ladies. I bought a few bridal magazines to look at dresses and couldn't get an idea of anything from their poses or the sitting/laying down pictures. How can I tell what the dress looks like if I can't see half of it or how it falls. The depressed looking models turn me off of a dress too. There's something about a sad looking woman in the dress that kind of turns me off the dress.

Why do they take a girl in a white dress and put her in front of a white wall? I can't remember which designer it was, but I kept tilting my screen trying to see the outline of the dress!

It's taken me a while to get past seeing scary hairstyles while looking at dresses, too.

lodonnell, I figure you're right about it being more important to try dresses on. I still like looking, though. Wedding dresses and formal dresses are so pretty! I'm looking at both, because I'm not sure which one I want to wear for our renewal.

CLR+VCR, I've been doing that, too. When there's a dress I am interested in enough but the can't see well, I do a little more research on the internet. It drives me nuts to have to do that, though!

rmp, I know what you mean! What is it with the pale, ghostly, weird looking models in these gorgeous dresses?! I think they are trying to make the dress look amazing by contrasting with a freaky looking model, but that backfires for THIS consumer.

bar, when I flipped through the magazines, I saw that you couldn't get a good idea from a lot of those poses, either. Frustrating!

Can I also add, as a plus size customer, I hate not getting to see these dresses on plus size models. I mean REALLY plus size models, not just a woman with an extra 20 lbs.

I'm completely with you on that one too... I was looking online at I think David's and it showed the 'woman' collection that is supposed to be the 'plus size'... yeah... you could tell some of those pictures were, as I like to call, "reverse photo shopped"... meaning instead of taking some of this off here and there, they put stuff on here and there... totally makes the girl look awkward more than 'plus size'... very annoying <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

The good thing about David's Bridal is that brides post pictures in their reviews of the dress. It helps a lot.

OMG! This is my pet peeve too. I got so flustrated back when I was trying to decide on a dress. How am I supposed to see it if she's sitting down? Plus what's with having just the picture of the back of a dress? Has anyone seen those as well...
