How many photographers/vendors did you meet with?

So I'm meeting with an amaaaazing photographer this weekend.  She comes very highly recommended, and I absolutely love her pictures (she sent me the link to one of her recent weddings at my venue - with 850 pictures throughout the entire day so I can see how she will shoot my wedding).  She is also under my planned budget!  My question is, would it be crazy to book her without meeting with other photographers?  Everyone else that I like has a very similar style to her, but costs a lot more.  I think I would be crushed if someone else booked her on my date, but I almost feel silly bringing my checkbook this weekend and booking her on the spot.  Has anyone else done this with any of their wedding vendors when you just knew that you found "the one" and only met with one vendor?

As for the rest of my wedding stuff - I saw 2 venues and booked the second one (although I gave myself a week to sleep on it), and I tried on 5 wedding dresses at one store before buying my dress.

  • FI and I are just starting to contact photographers, and currently dont have any meetings set up. I know I am the type of person that has to sleep on a big decision, but if you really love her pictures and she is under your budget, I would just go for it pending the vibe you get from her. I booked my venue based on the vibe I got from the coordinator, it just felt so right.

  • I thought I really liked the first photographer I met with but decided to keep looking and met with another photographer that I ended up going with. I think it is good to see at least two vendors just to get a comparison. I tend to always go with the first thing I like but I have been forcing myself to try and look around more since we have so much time before our wedding!

  • We actually met with four or five photographers and got quotes from 15-20. What ended up really selling us on the one we picked was her professionalism. Obviously we liked the pictures from all the people we contacted, the ones we met with were all in our price range, so how the meetings went was important. We liked everyone, but the photographer we booked came with lots of info, pictures, recommendations, and was really willing to work with us (we want pictures at several locations around town, before and after the ceremony).

As for the other vendors, we met with three venues, three florists, I tried on maybe 15 dresses at two stores, we got quotes from a number of DJs/officiants but only met the one we booked, we'll be meeting with two bakers, and I have one makeup consultation scheduled. Price is really our biggest thing, so as long as there are no major red flags, we book whoever will give us the best deal.

  • My answer will probably not help at all but I didn't even meet with mine.  I know a photographer via online that I absolutly love.  His work has always spoke to me.  I'm a wedding photographer so this was a huge thing for me, but I love his work and couldn't image anyone else shooting it.
  • We met with only one photographer, who we both really like, and he's within budget. Chances are that we will book him, but I didn't want to commit on the spot. So we told him that we would be making a decision by the end of the month, and we asked if him he could let us know if anyone becomes interested in our date in the meantime. He was happy to do that for us, and this way, I have the opportunity to research other photographers, without having to worry that someone else will book him.
  • For photographers, we got quotes from 10-15 different phtographers.  We then narrowed it down to three based on price range and their work.  Then, we met with our favorite and decided to book him right away.
  • My aunt is shooting our wedding (she's a pro photog) so I don't have to find photographers.  I am concerned about how many venues to meet with because I've already fallen in love with one, and the price is in our budget and it includes much more than the others. I know we're going to look at at least two in the area... thankfully my mom and fiance like to shop around, I generally go with the first thing I see... thanks for asking this! - GL with your photog, she sounds amazing!

  • Well I think I am an extreme case but, I got quotes from 70, yes seventy photographers and I met with about 8 of them.  I really liked all 8 on paper, but meeting them all I had a completely different vibe with each of them.  One or two were very not sociable, it was not ideal.  One was almost too excited to meet with me, put me off a bit.  One was hard to reach, one showed up late to the meeting, all these little things added up and I was down to just 2 to pick from.  I chose my photographer because she is the most responsive, of course I loved her photos, and she really really goes out of her way to work with you (shes in NC, and my wedding is in MD, for example).  She literally emails me back within minutes of contacting her, it's great!

I agree. My problem is I can't decide on two photographies.

  • I would do your due diligence and at least get quotes/have a phone meeting with one or two more, just to make sure. But it sounds like you have all your ducks in a row and have done your homework, so I'd go for it if you really like her!

  • I have narrowed my photographer search down to about 3-4. I am somewhat sad, the photographers work I loved the most has FI's ex girlfriends wedding pictures on the front page of his website. I could totally care less about this as I have been with FI for 5 years, but he is all "I am NOT using the same photographer that she used." Im sad, but I see his point, I dont think I would want to use a photog that had done an ex boyfriends wedding.
