TGIF

1. Does anyone remember TGIF, the shows the used to be on ABC on Friday nights? Like, it used to be Family Matters, Full House, Step By Step, eventually Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, etc? I soo do. I remember being a kid and my mom would make me popcorn and I'd watch all the 4 shows that were on and I always couldn't wait. Anyway.....

2. MrsK, how did you meeting go? Did the parent totally try to blame you? I found during my teaching that these b!tchy girls always had mom that were like their "best friend" and just as bitchy, pretty much alwys taking their daughter's side.

3. Ok, on the the real Friday post.....if someone (anyone, even a stranger) offered to pay for one aspect of your wedding, and it would be ANYTHING, regardless of cost and they would pay it for you, what would you choose?

    1. Obviously I remember TGIF, lol.

    3. I would ask for fireworks. Our venue is on the water, and it's the ONE thing I know FI really wants, but I think it's pretty expensive and there are permits involved, etc. I am going to look into it, but doubt I will be able to surprise him with it. Plus, (one of the downsides of my venue), there can be another wedding downstairs at my venue at the same time. There probably will be since it's June. I feel like I don't want to pay for that bride and her guests to get a free firework show. I guess I could try to find out who that bride is, and see if she wants to split it, but I see that being a huge longshot. And, I would need to make sure my guests all stay until the very end, so we could do it at midnight and everyone could come outside to watch. They could see it from our venue, because it's all glass windows overlooking the water, but it would probably be cooler outside.
Anyway, I would ask this person to give me a spectacular fireworks show for free, that would make me, and especially FI, very happy. Maybe we will get a stray show for free since it's the weekend before 4th of July. (Or maybe this magical money-giver will really appear and offer to pay).

  • 1. I definitely remember watching TGIF as a kid!

    3. I may also go with fireworks. FI mentioned once hiring someone to do them since we're also getting married on the water. But he hasn't brought it back up in a while. Or I'd ask them to foot the bill for my custom wedding ring. I need to start figuring that out, ugh.

  • Happy Friday, all you June Brides! I hope it's a great one for you!

    1. I remember seeing that show line-up on tv. My kids still watch some of those as reruns!.

    2. Mrs. K, I also hope your meeting turned out well. You've really been put through the wringer lately, eh?

    3. What a fun question!! If I were having a wedding and somebody offered to pay for one aspect of it, I'd ask for it to be the food. I'd make it a sit down dinner service with a lot of entree choices and a bunch of different desserts.

  • 1. Heck yes I remember TGIF!! We were just watching "Dinosaurs" on Netflix the other night (that might have pre-dated a couple of you guys, it was one of the first shows on TGIF). And OMG, I thought Rider Strong from Boy Meets World was SUCH a babe.

    3. Hmmm....I'd probably say food. We're both big food geeks, and we'd love to do a full plated dinner with top notch food, but alas, we'd have to cut our guest list in half to make that work with our budget. I'd go all out and bring in the chefs from our favorite restaurants around here. Also, if this could actually happen, I'd probably have get a wedding dress made of stretchy material so I could eat without feeling like I was going to explode out of my dress.
  • 1.) I LOVED TGFI it was what I looked forward to all week. Every once in a while I'll watch Sabrina if there are reruns on. I had a HUGE crush on Will Friedle from Boy Meets World.

3.) I would have the mystery person pay for food. I love the food my caterer makes but it isn't anything super elegant or fancy. I'd have a ton of stations set up for cocktail hour, a sit down plated meal with more than my 2 choices and a great dessert spread. Plus right now food is the biggest cost from the wedding.

  • 1. I totally remember that entire lineup and loved watching it!

    2. Hope things went well for you MrsK!!

    3. Absolutely the food, then we'd be able to have a HUGE buffet of hot dishes and salads instead of possibly sandwiches.  Or maybe even do a plated dinner!  :)

  • 1.  I loved TGIF!!!  Boy Meets World was the best!

    3.  I am actually having a hard time with this one:  At first I thought food, but I really do love my caterer.  I just wish I could afford a sit down dinner and more appetizers.  I would also like to get any dress I wanted regardless of price.  I love my new dress, but I did have to get it at DB and it would have been nice to get a Vera from Kleinfeld's!  But ultimately I think I would have them pay for my photographer.  In Philly the really good ones are around $5,000 which is insane!

PS I'm off work today which is why I get to post so early.  I had 4 extra vacation days left over from the last fiscal year, and I needed to use them by September 30, so I just took off every Friday in September!  This is going to be an awesome month!

  • Love TGIF and I LOVED Dinosaurs ♫ I'm the baby...gotta love me ♫ NOT THE MOMMA NOT THE MOMMA!

I'd have someone pay for the honeymoon . I'd like the satisfaction of paying for my own wedding but still gatting a nice chunk of something paid for.

  • 1) Loved TGIF!

    2) I have actually been anxiously awaiting the result too lol

    3) This is super tough.  First off, I would never accept such a thing but if I did, I think it would be my venue.  I really love my venue now, but my dream venue was not affordable.  It's literally faster for me to ride my dirtbike there than it is to drive there from my dads house, FI has hunted that farm before, its gorgeous, everyone wouldn't have to drive far at all, its home.  But they wanted upwards of $70 per person and that didnt include alcohol yet.  Then you add in tax and gratuity and it becomes insane, much more than we could afford for our number of guests.  Our venue now is just $700 rental and $34 per person

  • 1. Nope, since I didn't grow up in the U.S.

    3. I'd say food, it seems to be the most expensive part of our budget. That way I can give people as many options as they'd like, and add more appetizers/displays/etc.

  • I remember those shows! I wish they still had shows like that one.

If someone offered to pay for anything?? I'd have to say the food also.

  • I also had a huge crush on Shawn from Boy Meets World, lol. And I loved Snick too lol. Glad your meeting went so well MrsK!!!!! Hopefully dealing with the girls will get better now too.

  • 1. Absolutely! My roommate and I watch Boy Meets World reruns every morning. I LOVE that show and was always so jealous of Corey and Topanga. I wanted their relationship!

    2. MrsK, I'm so glad your meeting went well. I was afraid it would be quite the opposite too!

    3. I would say my food. I would love to not have to pay for our honeymoon, but my parents are paying for our entire wedding, and food is the most expensive part of it. I feel terrible that they're spending so much money on me for one day, and I wish I could do something to help without having to give up my dream wedding.

  • 1.  Loved TGIF!  Full House was my favorite show, and I got to meet Mary Kate and Ashley when I was younger (when the show was popular) and it like made my life!

    2.  I don't know the details, but I'm happy the meeting went well!

    3.  At first I was going to say I would like the mystery person to pay for a band, because I think that would be super fun, but they are so pricey in Philly.  Then, I thought I would have them pay for a photographer...I like my photographer, but I chose him because I think the quality of work he does is excellent for the amount he charges.  HOWEVER, there is a husband and wife team in this area (Hoffer) that I would give my right arm to photograph my wedding.  I think they charge something like $8000, and that might be closer to the bottom of their price range (ridonk), so they were obviously out.  I did contact them though, shortly after we got engaged (about 18 months out) and they were already booked!  I also like MrsK's idea of having mystery person pay for the honeymoon, because I would also really love to go to Bora Bora.  So, basically, I could find plenty for my mystery person to cover!

    1. I love TGIF and Snick! Those where the best times out of my week! And I still watch all the shows on rerun or netflixs!

    2. Mrs.K glad that the mom understood where you were coming from and you are both going to help her be a better person!

    3. It took me a while to figure out what I would have a stranger pay for. So I narrowed it down to 2 things. (Since I know this wont actually happen I dont have to decided between one or the other! LOL) My first thought is my honeymoon. we are looking into going on a cruise but I would love to go to Fiji or Bora Bora! My other thought is food/venue. I like my venue but i mainly picked it bc the food was affordable. But If I could pick any where I would pick the Sheraton (I live in Erie, Pa and it's right now lake Erie) The veiws are amazing but the food is like $70 a plate and we def. can't afford that!

  • 1) I remember all  of those shows, but I don't remember watching them often.

    2) I'd be really tempted to let a mystery benefactor pay for my food, but we'd pay for that anyway, so I think I'd rather have something outrageous that we would never get ourselves.  I'm leaning towards crazy ridiculous bar stuff, like big ice sculptures to pour shots through, lots of good wine, pretty frozen drinks, I'd just let my imagination go wild!

  • wow I am posting so late Friday is almost over but I am going to anyways.

    1. Yes, I loved all those shows! and looked so forward to Friday nights. Seriously, my friends and I would rotate houses every Friday.

    2. mrsk, so happy it turned out well and that she wasnt mean to you. I was honestly anxiously awaiting to hear about how it turned out.

    3. I would have someone pay for videography. FI and I are on the fence about it. I really want it and can justify spending the money, but he cant. I think I am going to win the battle but we will see.

  • 1. I wasn't too into those shows, but I do remember them. Full House was a favorite when I was little - I was thrilled when John Stamos was both a joke and a guest star on Glee.

    2. I'm glad that the cheerleading situation seems to have worked itself out in a positive way.

    3. The honeymoon (also known as "cross-country move with U-Haul"). There are places I'd love to go, but it would involve a significant detour. With limited time available, we basically just have to drive straight there and then unpack.
