Ceremony Setup (Complete my terrible illustration)

*Please note that my artistic skills, when rated on a scale of 1-10, would be considered a -5.

This, my dear friends, is my lovely illustration of the venue. The odd shapes I have drawn are the path (I drew an arrow with the word path lol). The point that comes out at the top is where FI, the preacher, and myself would be located at. Inside the half circle thing is where the guests would be.

Questions
1. Where do I put the WP at? (On the path? Beside the path? Where?)
2. Does the WP walk down the center of the aisle (not on the path. Walk between the two sides of chairs)? Or down each side of the path?
3. Do I make two rows of chairs or just one giant row?

Our venue has a similar setup for the ceremony. If you go here, you can see some pictures of it set up for a ceremony and reception: http://www.stonebridgefarmnursery.com/events.html
This should give you a little bit of an idea as to how you can set up the chairs.

Is the path at your venue paved, stone, or what have you? I'd probably just angle the wedding party along the area where you, your fiance, and the preacher are standing, with your maid of honor and best man at the front, and the remaining people lined up behind them (so they'd kind of make a V shape along the sides of where you guys will be, if that makes sense). Or, if the path is nice and even and solid (if it's like, pebble lined or whatever, I wouldn't do this, because with girls in dress shoes, it might be hard for them to stand on it), you could line them up along the path. In that case though, I'd back up the chairs a little bit so that your wedding party isn't standing on top of your great aunt Mildred or whatever, hahaha.

Edit: To answer your second question, the wedding party can enter either way. Most  weddings I've been to, the groomsmen just sort of walk out from the side of the ceremony space, then the girls walk down the main ailse. Then, at the end of the ceremony, they pair up and walk out together up the center.

  • My artistic skills are pretty much the same as yours. haha

    1. I would have the wedding party on the path.

    2. Ditto on what Mrskaiser said.

    3. I would have two rows of chairs, just to make it easier for your guests to get to a sit.

I'd make two rows, go down the center as usual and line the wedding party up on the path. They can just follow the natural curve of it. Or, depending on what the ground beyond the path is, they can stand in a straight line and go off the end. If it's grass you can put down flat stones for them to stand on so their heels don't sink!

  • I think I might possibly have a pic of this. If so I can post it tonight. It might make it easier to understand...I know my drawing skills are probably making it more confusing...

  • 1.) Ditto ana especially if that's where they're walking from.

    2.) Ditto mrskaiser & ana

3.) I agree with the two rows of chairs, it will be easier for guests to get in an out of their seats.
