need June advice

I think we have all of the big stuff if you will - still missing flowers and cake...I'm not a huge flower person so I'm not overly worried.  FI is a HUGE dessert person so I put him in charge of researching/finding/setting up cake tasting but I think I'm going to have to help him...HAHA

anyways question is...has anyone done/decided on hair and make-up?  someone reccommended a make-up girl to me but she didn't have prices on her website so I emailed her last week and she is TOTALLY booked my Saturday.  I freaked out a minute like I guess I need to get on this but I'm not even sure I have an idea of what I want.  I've been going to the same hair girl for years but she just opened up her own salon and I can't see her for a whole year because of the contract she signed at the last place etc.  a friend told me she didn't think salons usually booked this early but I haven't checked that out.

opinions welcome!

We have a family friend who is a cosmetologist and has done my formal updo's for forever and is doing everyone's hair for the wedding. Makeup is a different story. My local board has some great recommendations and I'd advise you to check your local board too. I got my heart set on only to find out she had a $500 day of on site minimum plus travel. Hell no. I looked around a lot and finally found someone affordable. That was my main concern. I can't do jackshit when it comes to make up, so anything any MUA does will be infinity better than me doing my own. And this reminds me, I need to reschedule my trial with her!

  • My fiance's sister-in-law is a cosmetologist and she's doing my makeup, and as far as hair, I don't have a regular stylist that I go to. I wanted someone close to my venue, so I just googled "hairstylists + zip code of my venue" and started calling from there. Can you ask you friend if she recommends anyone? I also agree with cnf, check your local boards. I've found several vendors that way.
  • I booked my make up artist after she did my make up for the boudoir shoot. Hair is going to be done by my hairdresser and they said I don't have to make the appointments for everyone until about 3-4 months out.

  • OH! Also, check weddingwire. I've found my DJ that way, although he was also recommended highly on my local board. I was engaged several months before I discovered TK communities, so I did a lot of vendor shopping on WW.

  • Im sorry about this, I mentioned on my local board that MUAs are booking up way sooner than I had expected.  So I snatched one up and found a hair girl that is my MOHs hair stylist.  My biggest difficulty was them being willing to do makeup on just two people, and be a reasonable price, and be available.  I wasn't paying over to $200 for this...  Now I am getting me and my MOH done for $150 and hair is only $60 per person.  June is a super popular month, nature of the game unfortunately

  • My bestfriends daughter is a  cosmetologist and she did my daughters prom makeup and it was beautiful so I asked her to do mine and she is doing it at no charge.  My mom's hairdresser is doing our hair.  Happy to have these two things out of the way Smile

  • I agree with the PPs- vendors in June tend to book up very fast. I am using my normal stylist for hair and makeup, he told me not to book until about 4-6 months out.

  • I got the name of a MUA at a local salon and am going to try and schedule a trial with her.  It looks like her prices aren't too bad but she doesn't come to you, you have to go to her.

  • I plan to do my own hair and makeup.  I haven't decided on what either will look like, though.  My bff and I are both cosmetologist, so I figure if I screw it up due to excitement, she can fix it! LOL

  • Ugh I just went through this, so I know how you feel.  I've been working on this for the last month!  I went on Wedding Wire and contacted almost every hair and makeup artist in my area (well only if I liked how their hair and makeup looked).  I wanted them to come to me, but they were all crazy expensive!  I finally picked my hair and makeup artists yesterday and I'm so relieved.  They're not too bad on their prices, and their pictures and reviews are really good!  Unfortunately I'm going to have to do a trial before I can actually book them, so I'm planning on doing that soon so that I can officially book them on my day.

  • I'm having our family hair dresser do my hair.As far as makeup, I have no clue. I was just going to spend a few dollars on some good products (I'm a bare minerals girl), and do it myself. however, now a friend of mine is suggesting that I get a pro to do my make up and my moms. UGH!!! Just more money I guess. (I know that may sound cheap, but I really want a nice post honeymoon family vaca and each penny I spend on extras comes out of that fund)
