How early is too early to send out Save the Dates?

Hi everyone!

We're getting married June 22nd of 2013 and the Knot says November is a good time to send them out. However, a lot of our guests are from out of town. When would it be too early to send them out? I was thinking early October or even late September but would love to hear what you guys think. Thanks!

Mine are out. I sent magnets not too long ago. 100% of my guest list is out of town and about 95% are out of state and coming with kids. I'm the only one at this point, if I recall. This same thread has been asked a few times now and is currently going on the FB page.

Since we're having trouble getting our act together collecting addresses we're probably sending around Mid August.  It doesn't seem that early to me, esp. considering over half of our guest list is from out of the country.

So, to answer your question--I think late September is fine.

I sent ours out last Friday. You can send them any time under a year out without it being too early.

I am shooting to send mine out by mid-September.  I saw the Knot's suggestion for November as well, but I was concerned about the card being lost amongst the holiday shuffle.  Over half of my guest list are out-of-state relatives and friends, so I would like to them to plan (and save) in advance if they want to attend.

I've ordered mine already and plan to send them out within the next month!  I feel like there's no point in waiting, if you know the date - might as well start letting your guests know!

I'm hoping to send mine out in September. Most of our guest list is local, and my FMIL is having trouble coming up with her guest list. We asked her for it in January, and we're still waiting.

I'm not doing save the dates but I think the standard time to send them out is anywhere from 69 months before the wedding date. However, if you have family or friends traveling from really far away you could probably send them now or in the next few weeks.

We are sending ours in September-October, so about the same as you.

Depends on the situation. You don't HAVE to send out Save the Dates, but it is recomended. It allows people to plan things ahead. I would recomend it for June. It is a popular vacation month and allows people to plan around a vacation if they need to. I am personally sending mine out in January. Most of my guest are in state so not a ton of notice is needed. That and people are buying their calendars in January so they can put it on their new calendars insted of transfering it.

Thanks so much for your help girls! We've decided to purchase them a few days ago and they are on the way. I think I will start sending them out when they come in. I didn't realize there was another save the date thread, I'm barely on here... But I should start! Save the dates aren't necessary, but it's definitely nice for guests who are out of town, or even for the people that always are busy in the summer just like the above poster said. I know June is a huge wedding month.

I have mine sent out already, we are having a snafoo with our hotel since they can't reserve a block due to a lacrosse tourney so I want everyone who wants one have the option to book now. Also, we are inviting everyone on a cruise with us if they want so we wanted people to have the info well in advance so they can decide if they can afford it or want to join, can get off work or whatever and have plenty of it time to decide yes or no.

I sent mine out yesterday! It's helpful to give people some time to save up for travel and accommodations - especially for our family and friends who don't have extra money lying around
