Trying on Dresses

So I'm officially ready to start trying on dresses!  How did you "prepare" yourself?  I obviously have no idea of what shoes I will be wearing the day of our wedding.  I'm thinking of wearing my hair back since I plan on pulling it back for the wedding.  Obviously I need to wear a strapless bra...anything else I need to bring or be prepared for??

I know this might sound weird, but a friend of mine suggested to wear your most "modest" underware because most salons won't let you be alone with the dress in the fitting room you will likely be stripping down to practically nothing in front of the consultant!  Little boy short undies are the way to go.  Just a thought!  ;-)
  • You don't really need a strapless bra because all of the places I went provided corset style tad in my size with low backs so they wouldn't interfere in low back dresses. But ditto on the modest underwear thing.

  • I just went dress shopping for the first time this past weekend. I did bring a strapless bra, but ended up not using it, the consultant told me to just pull my straps down, which was fine by me since I prefer my regular bra anyways. I also agree with wearing more modest undies since you will have a consultant in the room with you, my mom was in the room the whole time as well. In fact, my mom said "I cant believe you wear those in front of Adam (FI)!" Which I dont, but didnt want my butt cheeks hanging out in front of a stranger. I did bring a pair of heels, but never ended up putting them on. If you plan on having your hair pulled back on your wedding day, then have it away from your face. I would also bring a bottle of water with you, I was getting ready hot and thirsty from trying on dresses all day. Hope this helps!

  • I don't have too much to add, except bring a camera or your smartphone so that you can take pictures! Although you might want to check with the store first, mine wouldn't let me take pictures until AFTER I've paid for the dress that I've chosen, which was super weird, but I feel like my store was the only one with such a policy.

  • I agree. I'd definitely bring a camera to take pictures. You can bring modest underwear if you don't want them seeing your cheeky underwear or whatever. It all depends on the salon, and how modest you are. (I didn't have anyone in the room with me when I tried the dresses on a good portion of the time, but when I did it didn't matter to me one way or the other. They see hundreds of different brides all the time so they're pretty much used to anything I'm sure.)  I'd definitely bring flat laying underwear if you're going to try on sheath dresses though. I hope you have fun dress shopping and find the one!
  • Thanks for posting this. I am going this Sat and I didn't even think about bringing anything or wearing different undies. Have fun shopping!!!
