June 2013 Weddings

Flowers?

Our colors are yellow, pink, and maybe orange. He wants to get married in the Church he belongs to but it is a VERY small church. I mean cracker box tiny. The Church I was raised in is slightly bigger, but has columns down the center that would prevent the bridal party from walking down it. So we are considering a outside wedding.

My question is if we went with an outdoor wedding, should we use real flowers or real-looking fake flowers in decorations? Since the wedding is the end of June, wouldn't real flowers wilt and everything if it was a really hot day? And besides that, we are also on a budget.

Re: Flowers?

  • Are you dead set on using flowers or would you think of using something else for decorations? I know we are trying to avoid flowers as much as possible.

This is one idea FI and I are playing with, and I think it would look great with your colors!

  • Klyn-those centerpieces are pretty cool! Very unique. We are also looking for flower alternatives (besides bouquets, bouts). Do you have a specific theme that youre going for? That may help in your decisions.

  • Those have to be the cutest things I have ever seen in my entire life. You are awesome! Have you tried making them yet? I was wondering how sturdy they are though. I mean is it something that if someone touches (because you know they will) they will  fall a part? I love the idea of them! Can't wait to show my FI these!
We have pretty much decided to have outdoor wedding now because of the number of people attending lol.

  • I haven't tried them yet but when I do I plan on spraying the crap out of them with the fabric stiffener. I did read up on them more on Martha Stewart and I saw that some people said they were having problems but they also didn't let them set long enough and they used cheap glue (instead of the stiffener)

  • I just wonder if they would be hard to remove from the balloon. I'll probably try to make some soon just to test idea out.

  • Tweezers! And let me know how they turn out and I'll do the same if I try them soon!

  • those are a really cool centerpiece. I am planning on using real flowers for my outdoor ceremony. We might be outside for a couple hours for the ceremony and pictures, I plan on keeping the flowers in water if I am not carrying them around. I was looking at alternatives for my reception tables even though their inside, because quite honestly I do not want to spend a fortune on flowers, I would rather have a videographer. I am not opposed to half my tables having floral centerpieces, and doing something else for the other half. I would recommend going to some bridal shows. A lot of them have tables set up and centerpiece ideas

I love these candleholders. I took this picture at a bridal show. I can rent the candleholders for a pretty reasonable price. I could always try to figure something to put in the middle in place of the flowers.

Also if you do not want to even use flowers to hold at the ceremony, I know brooch bouquets are becoming more popular. I am pretty sure someone on the board is doing one.

  • I have no idea what a brooch bouquet is.  I'm gonna have to google that one. And I will be sure and let you know how mine turn out.

  • and I googled it. Those are neat and super cute but I don't think I wanna go that route.

  • Those centerpieces are amazing!  I really like that they can be made ahead of time with very cheap materials!  I'm big on doing DIY projects and I think my guests would totally freak out if I told them I made those!  If anyone tries this out soon please post about how it turned out!
