Flowers are expensive!!

Hey Ladies
I have not been on here for awhile, so I don't know if anyone else has been talking about their florist quotes but OMG! I  just received my first quote/bid and it seems so high to me. My bouquet would be around $200 and my MOHs would be $60 each and the BMs are $50 each. (we have 2 MOHs and 4 BMs) Centerpiece- $35/table The centerpieces would only be the flowers bc the venue supplies vases and floating candles and tealights I know that it really depends on the types of flowers and how large the arrangements are but it just seems like a lot to me.
What are you getting for floral quotes/bids?

Re: Flowers are expensive!!

  • We're only using real flower for myself, FI and our parents. Everyone else is getting silk. I can't justify spending 3K in flowers. I spent $80 for five BM bouquets and five additional ones to use for pulling apart and decorating my archway with. Another $80 and I'll have enough for all my centerpieces. Can't beat that.

  • I haven't gotten any quotes/bids on flowers but I have been looking on several florist websites. I just can't believe how much they charge. I may just go with silk flowers for everything except my bouquet.

  • I went to a few wholesalers in the area and even buying direct, the prices were still out of control. I've got 24 tables to do centerpieces for, we have 13 people in the bridal party, plus our parents and ourselves, and there's no way I could justify the cost of real flowers for everything. I've compromised by deciding to DIY paper flowers for the centerpieces, because I really want real flowers for the bouquets and bouts. I will either be assembling the wedding party's flowers myself (with my mom's help), or having a friend of my mom's do them (providing her prices aren't astronomical).
  • I haven't gotten any quotes from anybody because I still don't know for sure what I want. I'm meeting with the event coordinator at my venue today so that might help. I'm leaning more towards doing silk flowers myself.

  • I got one quote that was over a grand for just myself, my FI, the parents, GMs, and BMs. We decided to skip the real/silk flowers and we are making Duct Tape ones instead. Thankfully this works with our nerdy/geek theme.

  • I am still at a toss up btwn using real flowers and DIY some burlap ones (clicky). If we get real, I will be going to Trader Joe's and just picking up some ther and putting together the bouts and bouquets myself. I can't justify spending $$$$ on something I really don't care about.. flowers just aren't my thing..

We haven't looked for any quotes yet, but since flowers are so pricey we'll be getting them only for my bouquet and the bridal party. Maybe some for ceremony site decoration if we can find a good deal. Other than that we will be doing non-floral centerpieces.

  • I'm meeting with a lady who does it out of her home and then another shop next week. The first shop was outrageous. I'll make my own bouts if I have to to keep my flower budget under control. I'm considering alternating a floating candle in a mason jar with those colored aqua beads and then in the larger mason jar having babys breath with a carn or rose in green (to help tie in that last color) or just babys breath with cut up limes and tangerines in it.

I'll post what I get quoted with next week.
  • I am doing silk flowers. Making the bouquets. I didn't want to, but with having to save up to move, FI and I decided to lower our budget. I got everything for my bouquets (one for me and a simple one to throw) and my BM bouquets for $40. I know I'll spend a tad more, but since I want super simple, I think I can do it all for under $200. I can't fathom spending so much for something that is going to be pretty much gone by the end of the night.

  • It is common for people to use bjs or SAMs club for flowers in bulk and put together their centerpieces on their own. Typically girls will do a trial run to be sure you can take care of the flowers yourself, see when you need to order them and arrange them (so that they are opened up and healthy at the right timing). This is a nice option if you aren't looking for fancy flowers for centerpieces. I am lucky in that my wedding incorporates very inexpensive florals. I'm going for the wildflower look with sunflowers, daisies, stuff much like baby's breath, little poms, or whatever. Also, my father is friends with the florist so my total bill is very inexpensive.
