Writing Own Vows

Hi,
I'm getting married in 6 days (EEK!) and we are writing our own vows. Here's what I have thus far, I feel like I should end it there because I don't want to seem long winded. It's the most important set of words I'll ever say, and I can't show them to my fiance, so if anyone could respond and let me know what you think, that would be great. Thanks fellow brides!
"Bobby,

I promise to show you each and every day, how appreciated you are and how much I love being with you. I have been very blessed to find you, and because of you, I’ve experienced the most divine apex of existence. With you I have found true love. As your wife, I promise to never lose sight of that, and not waver in my devotion. I look forward to continue to build our lives together. I promise to show you each day how loved, appreciated, and respected you are. I first fell in love with you when I was very young, and then countless times after. I vow to continue to fall in love with you for years to come. "

Re: Writing Own Vows

  • As a writer " the most divine apex of existence" made me cringe a little, personally. Sounds uber flowery to my ear, but it's up to you if those are the words that best describe how you feel. I'm with stage, though, for my vows being much more realistic and less idealized.

Ditto PP's. It's not a contest to see who can promise more - I can promise you a million dollars. It's more important to promise what you can actually deliver.

  • Here's my problem.  You are only promising the good things - and honestly, unrealistic things.   Marriage has ups and downs.  It is not always romantic (in fact most of the time it is not).  There is a reason the traditional vows have words like "Poor" "Worse" "Sickness" and "Bad" in there.  You don't like to think of them but they are going to happen at some point.

  • Think of things that you would say to him in real life.  Is "divine apex of existence" a phrase you have ever used in real life?  Everything will seem more heartfelt if it is how you really speak to each other.
I didn't even write my vows. . .  . . . I thought for a while about what I could do to be a good partner in marriage and spoke from the heart the day of our wedding. There wasn't a dry eye anywhere.

This might just be me being super out of line but would you mind sharing them? I promise I won't use them of course but am also writing my own and feel they are kinda boring and could use some inspiration. If it is too personal I totally understand though!

OP - I agree go a bit more casual on your promises. I do think you live your husband very much though and that shows! :D
