Name Change advice

Has anyone used the online name change on dmv.org. You fill everything out online print them and then mail them to the appropriate departments which are given to you? It's $29. I want to see if anyone used this and if this would be better than taking a day off work to wait in various lines. I heard it can be kind of a nightmare.

I have never heard about this, but if you can do it, I say go for it.  The DMV was definitely the worst part about changing my name.

which comes first the SS office or the DMV?

You can do either.  They both just require your marriage license.  I had an easy time at the SS office, but other girls have said it took forever.  I guess it just depends on the time of day/location/time of year.

I say take care of your DL ASAP because I seem to remember someone having to wait forever because of the influx of kids taking their driving tests.

Tiffany - The way I did it was probably as close to perfection as it can be done.

I got to the DMV an hour before it opened in the morning to wait in line (I wasn't even the first one there). Once they opened, I was out in about 20 minutes. I'm glad I got there early because the line was ridiculous by the time they opened.

I then went straight to the SS Office, which opened an hour later than the DMV, so I got there about half an hour before they opened the doors. I was in and out in 15-20 minutes as well.

What can clog up the SS office are people trying to get their SS checks, but the office in Dallas has a separate side office just for things like name changes. I think some of the other SS offices can be a nightmare, but the one on Walnut Hill was great.

I think if you get ahead of the crowds it isn't a problem at all. Overall it took me less than 3 hours.
