niagara falls

Going to go up to niagara falls for three days after wedding in 14 days!!!! Any suggesting on what we def. should do? :)

Re: niagara falls

  • Make sure you have passports if you plan on going into Canada.
  • Maid of the Mist
    eat at Skylon Tower
see the falls lit up at night
    go to Niagara-on-the-Lake

I look forward to hearing from more people. The Falls is about a half hour from us and we should probably spend more time there.
  • A couple of the wineries in the area have tours and tastings.  We had fun at them when we went on vacation a few years back.
  • I went to Niagara a few years ago.

It was an AWESOME trip... but only if you go over to Canada, in my opinion.  The American side is really touristy and just not as fun.  The Canadian side of Niagara is cooler and has nicer restaurants/hotels.

But the best part of Niagara is Niagara on the Lake, on the Canadian side.

It is a charming town just a short drive from Niagara Falls.  On the way there, you'll see tons of wineries that do tastings.  I don't even LIKE wine, but I really liked the ice wine there.  The town itself is full of flowers, cute shops, and good restaurants.

If you want a little adventure, do the whirlpool jet boat ride.  You'll get absolutely soaked to the bone, but it is SO MUCH FUN.  The jet boat just goes down the river and rides the white water.  Very cool.

    Have fun!

  • This is definitely a less-traditional idea, but if you've ever been geocaching and own a gps (not the kind you use in your car) there are a bunch of caches on the Canadian side - H and I did this one weekend a few summers ago and had a great time.

For restaurants, we ate at the Rainbow Room (http://fallsviewrainbowroom.com/) one night - very good food, and a great view! We also went  to the magic show at the George Frewin theater and enjoyed it (http://www.gregfrewintheatre.com/)

  • imo the canadian side is just as touristy as the NY side but outside of the immediate falls area the CA side is far nicer. niagara on the lake is nice and toronto is only a bit further. so fun.

The NYS park on the US side is beautiful this time of year. You can get right next to the horseshoe falls ( the one in all the pictures). Probably my favorite part of Niagara Falls. It isn't far from the Rainbow bridge.

If you use a credit card at the Skylon tower, check your statement when you return. I travelled with friends one year and one of us was paying someone's cable bill for a month before we realized the number was lifted. I know this could happen anywhere, but then another friend had a similar situation.

  • Walk up Clifton Hill and check out all of the tacky tourist traps if you like kitch. I love the Movieland Wax Museum and the Criminals Hall of Fame.
