The beaches there are absolutely gorgeous.  Other than that it has the usualy stuff that is near beaches.  There are clubs and bars nearby.  There are the usual mini golf and arcades.  It will be quite hot in August but the Gulf water temps will be nice.

very beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue water....August can be hot . Lots of restaurants here.  Area around Boardwalk very nice..shopping and restaurants..also fishing on the pier across street.  The western end is much quieter.. also very close to the 31A loop....Seaside is there/ a cute community with lots of restaurants and shopping.  Very close to Destin.....your typical water sports are at lots of places, as well as deep sea fishing or shelling......spectacular sunsets....

I went there for every summer of my life.  THAT is where we Georgians go LOL... inbox me if you have any specific questions... I will be very glad to tell you about some great places there.

Ick.. don't go during spring break. Was just there this year and it was absolutely disgusting. My view of that place is forever tainted and I will NEVER go back there again. 

ETA: Just realized you said you'll be there in August.. You should be fine there, although to echo: Expect heat and humidity. It can easily be in the high 90s during that time with 99% humidity.
