Inexpensive outdoor venue?!!

Hello all...
It seems I'm in a bit of pickle :/
We have yet to set an exact date, but I'm hoping we can marry sometime next year, perhaps fall/spring of course.
I've always imagined a big outdoor ceremony and reception. Oh, especially the reception. But you see, we are a young couple and are tight on cash. All the venues seem to be so elaborate and high priced. I don't want to pay 5,000 for a place that comes with catering and a planner and so on so forth, when I need none of this! All I really need is a BIG simple yard, where I can hang some lights and place some chairs. And my uh, large sized, flamboyant family can celebrate without feeling unwelcome. Nothing fancy.. Rather the opposite. Why can't I seem to find just a plain nice big yard?!

Heeelpppp meeeee

  • Why not look in to some of the local city or state parks?  The cost to use the space is usually low, no one should make your family unwelcome, and you can save some serious money!

There's also always the suggestions of "Marry in the off season" and "Marry on a weekday" to save money on reception venues as well.

What about looking outside of Austin?  There are some nice places in the hill country, although EVERYTHING costs!!  It's just an inevitability of hosting a reception!!  It's why we opted to keep our guest list small; we just couldn't afford to host lots of people.

    Good luck!
  • My mother actually suggested the exact same thing last night!! She mentioned fiesta gardens, and there are a couple other city parks/ city owned properties I'm looking into as well! Fingers crossed Such a great idea... Thank you!!!
  • YAY!!  I'm super glad that that will work for you!!  :)

    Have fun planning!!
  • You should consider the Zilker clubhouse. I really wish I had checked it out before I chose my venue. The view looks spectacular

My fiancee and I just booked yesterday- $1800 for the whole day- with a deposit. A little bit out of town, but super beautiful too.

I looked at this place too; from the photos it's super beautiful!  Although, I think they were already booked for my date, plus, you'll need to bring in your own vendors for food, etc.  But it sure is pretty!!!

I'm looking forward to your review after your wedding molly!!  :)
  • My husband and I just opened our venue and it is priced very reasonably. It is conventiently located between Austin and San Antonio. We are The Hopkins House. We have a huge lawn, two story house with overnight accommodations, and a patio and dancing pavilion. Our website is www.hopkinshouseweddings.com. Our Saturday rate is $1300 for 2013 and early bird special for next spring is $1400! We offer tours every Sunday afternoon.

  • Check out the Flying T Ranch! Very informal, super cute setting with indoor and outdoor options, plus you can rent it for the whole weekend if you want!
  • Has anyone suggested The Lookout? I'm getting married there next month. I did pay for a wedding planner, because I live in Houston, but the base cost is really reasonable and the venue is GORGEOUS, even without a lot of decorations.
