AMA - I need distractions!

Hey guys! BF is working in the city today, so I'm all alone (well, except for the pup). I am in desperate need of distractions today, so feel free to AMA!

<div>I think the last movie I saw in theaters was Zero Dark Thirty. BF and I went to see it on Christmas Eve (seeing a non-holiday movie and eating chinese food has become our Xmas Eve tradition).I thought it was fantastic and I've been meaning to re-watch it!  I will only go see something in theaters if it's a movie I'm really, really excited about. Otherwise, we'll wait until we can download it. </div>

BF and I are the same way. Movies are too expensive these days for me to go see anything that comes out!

On a similar note: What is the last book you read? How was it? What are you planning to read next?

  • We try to catch early movies on the weekend--the theater near our house has half price movies if you see the first showing of anything.  Good gracious we act like old people, but hey, something to look into if you think movies are too expensive!

Anyway, do you have any trips/vacations planned in the near future?

<div>Favorite meal has to be what I always get at one of our favorite little restaurants - Bianca, in NYC. Yummy bread with olive oil and vinegar, salad, then the best lasagna with meat sauce I've ever had. We always get a big bottle of pino grigio to go with it. For dessert, the tiramisu. </div>

</div><div>The last book I finished was Instant Mom by Nia Vardalos (the one who wrote & starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It's about how she struggled with infertility for years, and finally adopted a 3 year old little girl through the foster system. I'm very interested in fostering and adopted, and got this book on my Kindle the day it came out (last week). It was a really great book, and it literally mad be both laugh and cry. </div><div>
</div><div>Right now I'm reading this book called Ladder of Years. It's about a wife/mother who basically just decides to leave her family and start over somewhere new. I'm not really into it, mostly because the characters aren't very interesting.

<div>Thats nice. Every theater near us is about $12 per ticket or more. It's not terrible, but only worthwhile if it's something I can't wait to see. I'll probably go see The Great Gatsby in theaters next.</div><div>
</div><div>No trips planned for now. We just went to Jamaica in January, but I have a feeling that will be our last big trip for a while. However, if I do get a new job I will probably decide to give my current job just one week's notice, since I would have a lot to do to get ready for a new job. BF said if I can give myself a week off before starting a new job, we should definitely go away for a long weekend. So.....hopefully I'll get to plan a mini-trip very, very soon.</div>

I'm excited for that one! I think that's one we might actually see in theaters. I don't love the book but I think it could make a really good movie and the previews look good.

<div>Although Jamaica was relaxing and beautiful, the best vacation I ever went on was the cruise BF and I took last February. We went on the Norwegian Gem, departing from NYC, and went down to the Bahamas. I loved every second of that trip. The ship was pristine, the food was delicious, the entertainment was a lot better than I expected, and our cabin had the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Plus, it was 7 nights and 8 days, so it was long enough to forget all of my responsibilities. It was also the first vacation I had even gone on with BF, so that made it extra special too. I definitely want to go on another cruise sometime within the next few years.</div>

Yay for a possible long weekend!  Good luck on the new job & I hope that works out!  The Great Gatsby looks <em>awesome</em>!  BF won't go see it with me--probably because he never had to read it in school (am I the only one shocked by this?), so I don't think he gets it.

How fun.  We are now looking at grills and patio sets for the new home and it's a lot of fun.  I can't wait until we can host back yard bbq's.

</div><div>Ha, not at all. I have told BF many times that one of my reasons for dating him was to finally have someone to go away with. For years, I had money and vacation time to go on trips, but NO ONE to go with me. All of my friends either didn't have any money to spare, or couldn't take time off of work. FINALLY, I had someone who pretty much had to go away with me :-)</div><div>
