Hi everyone, I posted under a similar SN around 2 years ago, some might remember me living in Dubai and dating a South African, but that ended badly (we have since reconciled) but I am now with a wonderful man who I want to spend my life with, and feel confident to post again. I have been lurking for YEARS on and off, and although I prefer to lurk, I would like to pop in convos once in a while. Here's my Getting to Know You post

Quick about me.. I've been a flight attendant in Dubai for the past 2.5 years, originally from Phoenix, AZ, previously studied communications, broadcasting, theater, music.. lots of crazy things. I'm a huuuuge geek and have worked in the video game industry as a reviewer/blogger and no you can never be too old to play video games (my bf and I have just finished Borderlands 2 together).

He is a personal trainer from south of London, and has been in Dubai for 1.5 years. I have met his family and friends in his hometown and he will soon meet mine in May, where we hope to settle down in one day.

We had a rocky start (I dated his good friend briefly before I met him) but we perservered and it really shows that we are meant to be together. Both of us are very drama-free, we love to try new things, cook together (I am learning) and watch our favorite shows, The Big Bang Theory and Walking Dead. He used to play hockey (yes, there are community teams here in Dubai, land of sand!) so we have started rollerblading together (although it is quickly getting too hot to even steo outside.)

Thanks!! It's been kinda tough lurking so much and holding back on posting.

Favorite meal.. the only one I can cook well enough is Filipino Chicken Adobo.. if we cook other meals together, it's usually him cooking something healthy (like salmon fillets) and me preparing and cooking the vegs....

Favorite cheese? I used to only know cheddar, american and provolone but since working in the airline industry I got introduced to Camembert.. delicious warmed with garlic slices! Thank goodness for business class!

Cute picture!  How are you standing barefoot on the sand.  Isn't it really hot?  

 

Do you speak Arabic (or whatever language besides English is the most common in Dubi)?

This was taken in November when the weather is bearable! Actually the sand is so soft and smooth and feels great between your toes and the temp is nice. Wouldn't dare do it in the middle of summer.

Don't speak Arabic.. in fact, I hate the sound of the language >_< but everyone speaks English here. The locals (Emiratis) all know English very well. The problem comes from many other expats whose English isn't great, for example the taxi drivers from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, etc (in a city where there are no addresses, this can prove to be fairly difficult if you don't know where your location is).

I can see you might be quite curious about Dubai.. I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has. for us Westerners living in Dubai (and both being extremely affectionate) we encounter difficulties being in public and keeping our hands off each other.
