Chewing on lips

I have this weird extra skin on my lips, which I chew on and pull off, and they can look really gross. They aren't dry, exactly, I keep chapstick/balm around, they just kind of peel.

Anyone else? Suggestions? Is there maybe an at-home exfoliant I could make? My theory is if I don't have any extra lip skin, I can't chew on it.

Re: Chewing on lips

  • Carmex is also good. I usually alternate between that and Burt's Bees.
  • I have this problem too, it sucks. Especially in the winter my lips look gross. When I remember to put something on them, I use Blistex DCT (daily conditioning treatment). It comes in a light orange little tub. When I was in college, this is what all the music majors used (playing wind intruments = constantly licking your lips = badly chapped lips).
  • My lips FINALLY just got back to normal after about a month of being chapped from blowing/wiping my nose (the cupid's bow kept cracking). I have carried a tub of vaseline around with me for about 3 weeks. I use whatever I have around - lipsmackers (terrible like chapstick, but tastes like watermelon), burts bees, EOS, or blistex 5 star.

  • I use the Mary Kay Satin Lips lip mask to exfoliate a few times a week in the shower, and then I am addicted to the Satin Lips lip balm.  I wear the lip balm all the time and it really lasts quite well, even with the amount of water and tea I drink all day long.

  • I use a sugar scrub on my skin once a week but I never thought to use it on my lips. I'll try that this week!
