***Knot Jackifer***

(Shamelessly stealing Stage's name for you)

Since ya'll seem to be paying attention to this board, I thought I would post this here.

I wanted to see if you could fix the "Moderator" name at the top of boards I mod for. I emailed Jennifer a couple of times about this in the past few months, but haven't heard anything back.

I mod the following boards:

Plus size
Gay weddings
California- Bay area
California - Northern California.

thank you !

Re: ***Knot Jackifer***

  • Thanks for all your good wishes and for the new offers to be mods.  Instead of putting a bunch of posts one after another I'll try this:

Thanks Daria (for offering to mod NYC and Central PA.

Thanks to Staar for offering to take Orange County CA,  and

Thank you to ravenray for offering to take the Student board.

Also thanks to GLB and Retread for offering to take WP.  Let me check with banana first--she might want some help.

I've added all this to the list I was compiling before this thread started.  If I've gotten anything wrong, let me know.

And Linger, I got the PM.  You guys are great!
  • FYI: The Virginia-Richmond board doesn't have a mod either. It's actually busier than the generic Virginia board, which does have a mod.  It's fairly quite in terms of actual users, but gets its fair share of vendors and spam. It's slow enough that I'd be willing to take it on if you need someone.

  • Thanks Rachel.  I'll put you on the list to pass along to Jackie at the knot on Monday.

Knot Irene - Can you run a query for all mods and see when their last activity and/or post was and remove any that are not active and then seek out active replacements? In addition to the boards already mentioned, Photos and Favors are 2 boards that don't have active mods and are getting lots of vendor spam.
  • Knot Irene, you'll have a PM from me in a minute.

  • Knot Irene - And while we're at improving the boards with respect to mods, what about improving communication that is received by PMs?  Why can't a user see they they have PMs when they log in?

I don't get PMs often, but when I do it's from users asking me for further information on something I commented on in a post.  They don't know to call me out and I by the time I randomly check my PMs the messages are weeks or months old.

It would be helpful when one clicks on Community to see a the number of messages waiting for them as an icon next to the Message Boards.  The user can then click down to their PMs.  I know this won't help mobile users, but at least it's a step into making the site more efficient.

  • I would like to suggest adding a vow renewal board.  I believe others have requested one as well.  I would be willing to be the mod if needed.

Trying to do just that but it's not as easy as I thought/hoped it might be.  The info from everyone here helps a lot.  Thanks for the heads up on vendors (my least favorite thing).

I'm trying just to look at most boards daily and it's crazy-making.  I think if you tried it, you'd probably jump from wherever it is you're standing in your picture.

That would make life a whole lot easier.  I'll check into seeing if it's technically possible, but in the meantime what I do is go to the PMs first then to the boards.  And then check PMs when I'm leaving for a short period of time...and then again when I come back---repeat, repeat, repeat...I like your idea better.

  • I would volunteer to Mod the New Hampshire board. Current mod hasn't been active in over a year it appears. There's not a lot going on but I check it frequently.

Thank you for responding!  On the sticky at the top of the Second Weddings board (introducing KJ), you'll see a few requests for Vow Renewal board.

  • There is definately a demand for a Vow Renewal board.  Etiquette gets posts about these almost every week.  Since we answer from an etiquette point of view, it mostly doesn't go well (the correct etiquette for a VR is not really well recieved).

While I'm more than happy to point out the correct etiquette for VRs, 9 times out of 10, the OP doesn't care or want to know; they just didn't have anywhere else to post.  If etiquette isn't their concern, then they should have an environment to thow ideas at each other without catching us in the crossfire and starting a big flame war.
