Alternative monogram ideas

Hey,

So it's super far off I know (though my wedding checklist is always reminding me I'm behind, isn't that part so fun?) but I've been thinking about monograms lately.  I've always really liked the regular one, but I've got one little problem with my upcoming name change.

I plan on keeping my maiden name as my middle name.  HG and my FI's last name begins with A, which means if I get stuff monogrammed the normal way with First-Last-Middle order, it will spell HAG (awesome!)

Anybody know of sites that do different monogram styles where the last initial ISN'T in the middle?  I've searched google a bit, but haven't found specific websites with different styles...

I've never seen a monogram that goes first-last-middle.

Really?  They're common for individuals.  So is First-Middle-Last.
  • I hate monograms personally, but most places where you order one, you type in the letters you want. So I don't see why you can't put them in the order you want. It's just weird to me change up the order since that's just "not how it's done."

  • Oops, sorry.  I need to clarify

I know for things that are ours and things on the wedding day will have our initials together.  I was thinking more things I will use personally (mostly my teacher stuff) like water bottle, notebook, etc.

The problem with most average monograms is that the initial put in the middle is Bigger than the ones on either side, and I feel like it's strange to have my maiden last name as the middle and biggest initial out of the three.

I know it's silly and inconsequential, and totally a first world problem.  I was just wondering if anyone knew of websites that gave different monogram styles :)
  • Wedding Chicks has free printables where they have "alternative" monograms great for couples where the bride is keeping her last name or hyphenating.

  • We registered for a lot of bar wear and serving platters at steeling cut glass, it's based in Cincinnati but we were able to do everything online, as we live in Denver. We did have the option of making all letters the same size, but I'm not sure if they do water bottles and notebooks. Have you checked Vera Bradley?? They just started embroidery. Also maybe thirty one??

Linger, I know I don't have to have anything monogrammed.  I just really like it, and am very proud of my soon to be new initials.  I've seen some things in the past where the initials were in a different form, like an H and G stacked on top with a double sized A next to it.  I just wanted to see if there were any other options out there.

Thirty one is a good idea.  I've never ordered anything from there but I know some other teachers who have used it.  Thanks!
  • This is your main concern right now? Why don't you wait until those are actually your initials before you buy stuff... Who needs their initials on a water bottle?

There's this book in my Amazon wish list that might be helpful. Haven't read it yet so I can't guarantee it will :)http://www.amazon.com/dp/1616890673

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Alternative monogram ideas : I love Thirty-One!  A friend got me a Bible cover from them with my new married initials monogrammed on it.   I haven't seen the types of monogram styles you talk about, but that sounds cool!   Usually with the larger size of the last initial (middle letter), it looks less like a word.  I wouldn't worry about people thinking you're a hag.  ;)

<div>Thanks, that's kind of what I'm talking about.  I like the bible idea!</div><div>
</div><div>I just worry that students will read the letters when they are in that format and a can of worms will be opened.</div><div>
</div><div>PS- I do love my initials, just not when they are mixed into a not so friendly term :) Hence the problem with the original monogram format.</div><div>

<div>It's most definitely not my main concern, but every once and a while I like to take my mind off all the stresses and just look at something trivial and fun.  I posted in the CC board because it is most certainly not a big deal.</div><div>
</div><div>I was just posting to see if anyone else had an alternative option, or a similar situation... You know, like if Florence Clark-Kingsley married Mr. Umbridge :)</div>

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Alternative monogram ideas : This.  If you loved your new monogram, you wouldn't be on a message board asking for ways to get around the "rules" of a monogram.  You'd be happy to have hAg on everything (apologies if I have your initials incorrect, I think that was them, but might be mistaken).  You can personalize your stuff however you like, or not at all.  But honestly, this is such a silly thing to stress over.  I'd skip the monogram and use your initials.

<div>Actually, I do think it looks better when the outside words are lowercase, it's not as quite obvious.  </div><div>
</div><div>I'm most definitely not stressed over this at all, and didn't really think this would cause consternation.  I just had a friend asked if I would replace some of my monogrammed things with my new initials, and we had the realization of what it would say.  </div><div>
