So, the post over on E sparked my curiosity.
FI's birthday is Dec 27. He HATES having birthday parties thrown for him because he is right in between xmas and new years eve. He always has new-years eve/b-day combo parties. He always feels over shadowed by the holidays. I have a friend who threw her husband a 29 1/2 party a few years back. So my question..........
What do you think? He will turn 29 the December after our wedding, so 29 1/2 the following July or so. (I know, I have plenty of time to plan for this, I'm just curious).
If I did this it would be a GIGANTIC blow out. He never has parties, always declines them because people either do not show because of holiday travel and tight finances or because they have family obligations. He has had one party since we have been together and it was a new years eve combo party his best friend threw for him (it was either the weekend before his bday (xmas) or the weekend after (new years...) I would rent a hall, get a dj and have some drinks/snacks out. Thoughts? Would you like this? Also...it would be a surprise party of course. I'm heading out for most of the evening, but I'll check back soon to see responses. I just want him to have a nice birthday but not sure if people would find this weird? I think most would get why it's a 29 1/2 party though.
Edit: his 30th birthday actually falls on a Saturday...so maybe this would be okay??? Maybe a STD b-day invite???

Re: 29 1/2 Birthday Party???
I'd LOVE to start celebrating it in the summer but he keeps telling me that's not his birthday and wouldn't want me to. He'd think it was totally bizarre if I did a half birthday party...and though I wanted to do it, I'd probaby think it was weird if I was invited to a half birthday party.
I think a birthday (not combined with Christmas or New Years) party the week before or the week after Christmas would be what I end up doing if he ever lets me have a party for him.
You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

This year I had a party for her the Saturday before at a family member's house who regularly hosts parties, and because it was mostly family (I had to draw the invite line somewhere, with a tight budget and all) It was well attended because everyone was HOME for the holidays. She seemed to really appreciate it and it was close to her birthday.
ETA: This was her 50th birthday.
