NWR Parole Board

I found out today that the guy who killed my father is up for parole. I am going to request an open parole hearing. Which basically means that my family can attend & speak. I have no idea how a parole hearing works. What things I should say to make my case of keeping him in jail. Do parole boards even really care what I have to say. I have tried looking online but all I can find is info on how to help someone get paroled. Someone please point me in the right direction.

Wow, I'm sorry for your loss and that you're in this position. Assuming this is in MD, I hope this is a start for you: http://www.dpscs.state.md.us/agencies/dpp.shtml

I imagine someone at the 800 number can direct you appropriately to someone who can help you with your questions and walk you through.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I really don't have any real advice for you. I would hope they cared about your feelings. I would wonder if the nature of the crime effects how much it's an impact or not. I really don't know.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions. Back when we first went to court for the trial we did deal with a lady at the victims services unit for the states attorney. I'll call tomorrow to see if she is still there. Stage- What was the parole hearing like?

  • I agree with PP that Victims' Services will be able to help you. I'm sure it varies from state to state, but from what I've heard about parole hearings here is that they consider whether the person has changed or been rehabilitated at all. So they might consider whether the prisoner has attended AA or NA meetings, done any educational stuff, feels remorse etc. I do think they care what victims' families feel.
I'm so sorry for your loss and that you have to go through something like this.
