Makeup or No?

I don't normally wear makeup. Only worn it once before, and that was for homecoming back in high school.
Should I wear makeup on my wedding day? Or just go as normal?
I hate how noticable it is when I am wearing it, but I also don't want to look awful in my pictures and what not.
FH says no makeup, but my BMs and friend who will be doing my hair say yes.

</div><div>I'm going to vote yes as well.  You don't need to be made up heavily.  Just enough that you are a better version of your usual self and to insure that your photographs come out nice.  Do a trial first to nail down a look that you are comfortable with.

  • I didn't see the "Wedding Beauty" board! Guess I posted this in the wrong place =\
  • I'd go for it if I were you.  I'm the same- I do not wear makeup, and my FI loves the natural look.  The few times I've tried to do makeup, I've looked like I make my living in a less-than-legal way.

I'm actually getting my makeup and hair done, and I will be asking them to make it look as natural as possible.  I want to look like me in pictures, not a washed-out me that it may be without makeup, or a super dolled up me.

I agree you should at least do a little makeup.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • You are going to be photographed. Make-up will improve those pictures and keep you from looking washed-out or losing the details of your features.

  • There's much more traffic here than the Wedding Beauty Board. I think it's okay to post here.

I think you should at least do a trial and see how you feel.
  • Do a makeup trial.  Tell your artist about your concerns, and stress that you want to be natural.  You can even have her take pictures of you before and after each application to see how it looks on 'film'.

I think you'll be surprised how much of a difference even a little makes on defining your features and eyes in pictures.  The last thing you want is your dress outshining your face in all your photos.

  • I highly encourage you to wear makeup. Your wedding day will be one of those days where you will be photographed from every angle and in every light. Find someone who can make your makeup very natural and bring our your best features. I promise you that you won't regret it.
  • I also very rarely wear make-up, but I will be getting it done on my wedding day and will ask to get natural make-up.  A little blush, a natural looking eyeshadow, and some nice lipstick can do wonders when it comes to photographs.
My FI also says he prefers me without make-up.

  • Like PPs, I also vote some makeup - some foundation or powder can reduce shine in photographs, and even a tiny bit of blush/mascara can help to keep you from looking washed out, which you won't look in person but can look in photographs! I also strongly suggest a trial with the same makeup brands you'd be getting day of to make sure your skin isn't sensitive to any of the ingredients!
  • I did my own makeup so that I could keep it looking natural. It was very light. I did several trial runs, including e-pics.
  • Thank you all!
As I've said, I'm no makeup guru of any sorts. Does anyone have any suggestion as to brands to use or avoid?
  • I second the very natural makeup idea. At least the basics--just to enhance your natural beauty and to make sure you look the best you can in photos.

In Response to Makeup or No?:

I personally think that you should wear a little makeup, just to even out skin tone and whatnot. :)

Have you considered maybe going to a MAC store and having them do a trial run on you?  You can talk with their MUA and tell them what you would like and that you typically never wear any makeup so that on your wedding day you want something very natural.  They will also be able to help you decide what makeup is best for your complextion and teach you how to apply it if you don't know how.
