Fancy Dancy Wedding Shoe Tip

Ladies, I may be reiterating some common sense here, but my swollen toes begged me to pass along some sage advice.

When your seamstress tells you to start wearing your weading shoes for 15 minutes a day 3 months before the wedding LISTEN TO HER!

I'm 3 months out almost to the day and the beautiful sparkly princess shoes that match my dress so perfectly, almost ended up going off the balcony tonight.

Here's the thing, on sandpaper, I could probably wear these things for a day easy. However, since my wedding isn't at Home Depot, I won't have the luxury of having my shoes grip the floor by default. My venue is hardwood, grass, and tile Also known as falling face first into the cake floor coverings.

Like many of you, I could deal with the pain, but the slipping and sliding adds a whole new level of excitement.

So, if you think your seamstress, or your mom, or your maid of honor are just being dramatic, you're wrong.

Wearing your shoes 3 months ahead isn't just to brace you for the discomfort, it's to break in the soles, so you don't faceplant into your new brotherinlaws lap.

  • You can buy non-slip pads for the soles at most shoe stores or Target, they are usually under $5. Even with wear some soles are just slippery.

This is great advise. If you plan to do any dancing that includes turns and spins you will need the sole to be a little "slippery". It is the heel that you use to stop slipping.

And speaking of sand paper, you  could use that to scuff up the bottoms so they are not as slick.
  • I've actually used sand paper to scuff up the bottom of my shoes so I could superglue the sole grips and they would stick better.

  • I wore mine a few times to try and break them in comfort wise.  But I only wore them on carpet.  I didn't want to scuff them up because I knew I would photograph my shoes.   Luckily I had no problems with slippery soles.  :D
