dress stress

I went looking for a wedding dress yesterday by myself, so that may have been a mistake. I chose this one and put a small deposit down:

Now, I woke up and realized its not 'the One'. I think I got caught up in buying a dress, I took the excitement for loving the dress. I am going to go back this weekend and either look at more dresses or cancel the order until I'm sure.

I have been looking at dresses online and none are standing out as one that are my dream dress...not even sure which styles I like...

How did you know your dress was 'the One'? And should I try and bring someone with me? My mum is in Canada, I'm in Ireland and my MOH is in Oz...

Re: dress stress

  • I knew my dress was "the one" b/c when I put it on, one of my bridesmaids kind of sighed and said, "Ohhhh" and I never wanted to take it off. It was not the dress I thought I would end up in. It was not even a style I was looking at in magazines or had the consultant pull for me at the store. But it caught my eye in the store as I walked by it, and I asked to try it on with the others.

I think you should definitely take another person with you when you go.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I think I will bring someone with me. I realised that the consultant pulled dresses that were the same shape with variations to it. I did try on one dress with a full skirt but thought it was too ornate for our wedding. But today I walked by and decided if a full skirt is what I love, and its in budget I should try it properly and decide then. The dress I saw had the neckline I loved. I just tried to convince myself it was too much we are getting married at city hall then a reception at a beautiful hotel near by. BTW, there were no tears or desire to wear it on forever. Beautiful dress, yes, 'the One', no... Thanks for the advice ladies! Ant wait to post me in my dress that I decide on

I went dress shopping with my mother, MOH, and bridesmaid. I tried on a few dresses and was starting to get frustrated. I was frustrated with the experience, being hot in the dresses, and wanting to find "the one". I found the one I bought because I felt so comfortable in it and my MOH said I glowed when I was in it. I love my dress and take peaks at it every now and then.

  • I agree with AddieL73. When I went to look at dresses I didn't want to take my dress off. I just stood there for a few minutes looking at it from every angle and my mom was like "Uh, are you going to try on others? Or is this it?"

Stupidly I went to 2 other bridals salons just to be sure and both bridal salons had a sample of "the dress." Tried them on there as well and no other dress could compare.

I will ring them tomorrow about my dress. I ordered it yesterday. The shop haven't taken measurements so hopefully I can see other dresses and they can put my deposit to the other dress.

Dress regret is common, so are you sure? I loved my dress, but kept feeling unsure until I received it several months later and realized I loved it all over again
  • agree-- did not want to take it off and every dress afterwards was compared to that dress. Then my mom cried so it dealed the deal.

If it was your first time shopping, keep it in mind, but at least shop at another place because you will know its the one if you compare every other dress to it.

  • I'm very happy. I rang the bridal shop today and they said I could come back to the shop and continue to look. they also suggested I wait if I chose to until September when the shop recieves new stock. Think I will go this weekend and try a few dresses :

Call them and cancel it right away. They may not have given the order to the designer yet so make sure you can get it canceled so you don't lose your deposit.  They may not give it back to you, but if they're able to cancel, you may be able to apply that deposit to another dress from the same store.

ETA:  I panicked for you and didn't read through to the end before I posted!  So glad it worked out.
