bridesmaid shopping help

so i have this huge delema and i need some advice and help i have 6bm and moh in my party plus fg. out of my bridal party my sister and 2 of my cousins live in my state i have 3 other cousins who live in pa 5 hours away and my last made just moved to california last year shes an 8 hour plane ride away. i know its going to be hard to get everyone in the same state to try on dresses  my cousins 5 hours away might be able to come but only one of them drives has a car as she is around my age my other cousins are my much younger cousins hs age.

my first thought is to get  my sister and my 2 cousins who live near me to the salon to try on dresses and styles we could narrow it down to 3 dresses and have my cousins 5 hours away go and try them on problem is they would have to try them on at a later time or the following week once i find out who carries them.. most places will take mesurments of the bms who live out of state and order the gowns but how will i know if the gown will work on all of them.. then i have the cousin in ca

i am def staying away from davids bridal it is not an option i do not like any of the styles there 2 commericalized i want something different and unqiue.

any ideas on what i could do if i cant get everyone in the same state

my other thought is to narrow down 3 designers that i like and have my maids out of state go to the salon that carries them the same day time try same dresses and narrow it down

Re: bridesmaid shopping help

  • First before you even start looking at BM dresses, you need to ask each person in your party individually their budget.  This way you aren't looking at dresses that they can't afford.

This is what I think you should do.  Get who you can together to try on dresses.  Once you find 3 that you like email the options to the others.  Then have them vote on which they like the most.  Make sure to give them time to go try on the dresses in their area if they can.

Another option would be to pick 3 dresses and just let them choose which one they prefer.  Then your BP could be more a mix of dresses by the same desinger so that the colors are the same but the styles are different making it feel more unique like you want.

Finally a last option would be to pick a color, fabrick and length and let your girls find a dress that they love from wherever they like.

I've never gone bridesmaid dress shopping with a whole group. I think that's only something that happens on "Say Yes to the Dress Bridesmaids".

Pick a dress from a national line like Watters or WToo, Dessy, J Crew. Let every bridesmaid handle her own ordering.

Or, let everyone pick out their own dress in a specific color. They don't need to match exactl.
  • I agree that this can be done without everyone in the same place.

Pick a national line like PP said -- make sure the line is carried at a local bridal salon for each girl so that they can at least go try the dresses on.  Shop with the local girls and pick 2-3 styles that you like. have the non-local girls try those on and send pics.  Either all decide on 1 dress, or be ok with different styles of the same designer.  My girls all happened to pick the same dress, but their body types were similar.  It's perfectly acceptable to have different styles of dresses within the same party (aka strapless vs halter top, etc)

The only thing I would make sure of is that all your dresses are the SAME designer, fabric and color.   For example:  "apple red" in chiffon looks different than 'apple red' in satin.  'apple red' in mori lee might look different than 'apple red' in alfred angelo, etc.
  • Thanks for the ideas I will be picking out a few so they can try on and see what they like. Price up to 125 would be ideal and I know its doable
