How important is a videographer?!

I did not budget for a videographer...some people are telling me they watch their video all the time, others say they watched it once.  My in-laws are willing to pay for a videographer as our wedding present if we want that...I just can't decide!

Anyone have thoughts on this?

<div>Hello - don't forget to read the "newbie" thread at the top and introduce yourself.  </div><div>
</div><div>Is watching a video of you getting married something you will do over and over again?  It's not a matter of 100 people weighing in to tell you what they would do and the vote with the most wins.  If you want a personal opinion, the last thing I want is a video of the day. I am paying a photographer and that is enough for me. </div>

We aren't going to have a videographer.

Also, can you fill out the Getting to Know You post located at the top of the page on Oct 2013 Board?  We really do like to get to know the new people on the board.  Thanks!

I decided not to have a videographer because I don't think I'd ever go back and watch it, but that's my own personal preference!

We are going to have a videographer. I hear from a lot of my friends that they watch it all the time and it's a nice thing to do on your anniversary every year. My sister did not have one and then regretted it. But as others have said, it's a personal preference.

We're not going to have one, although I'm going to ask a friend (my BM's SO) to record the vows/kiss part, because we have the other two DTR moments on video.

Also, I concur with the intro post request.

I didn't think it would be important, but then decided to hire one anyway. I really wanted the ceremony taped, and found a videographer that was highly recommended on my local boards that was not cinematphotography, but a strong basic videographer. It was a good price point and I liked his work. He will also do the reception.

It's totally up to you. I figured "why not!?" since I wouldn't be able to change my mind after the fact.

We're not having a videographer.  One- it's not a priority (we set out three things that were absolute priorities and portioned the most money to those items to make sure we get exactly what we want.) Two- we're having a Catholic ceremony and I don't want a videographer getting in the way and distracting from us and our guests participating in the ceremony.

It's a personal preference though, ask yourself if you think you'd regret not having a professional video.  Or ask a friend as a PP mentioned to film it if the quality isn't the issue, but rather capturing the moment and the memories.

We are having a videographer, but I am the only one on our local board who looks to be having one. Here's the thing, I originally budgeted half of what most videographers charge. I didn't realize what the going rate for a videographer was when I first wrote down our budget, I just assumed it would be less than our photographer. But because my venue was under budget and our photographer was too, I decided to go ahead and shuffle things around so we could book the videographer. I decided a video was important to me. Look at demos of videographers in your area and decide if it is something you and your FI want. If you look at samples of their work and think "This is the cheesiest thing I have ever seen, no way am I going to dish out 1k for that" Then you have your answer. However, if you look at the samples and think "Oh! That is the sweetest thing! I want to do that!Totally would be worth it. And what if I didn't do it and regreted it?" Then you have your answer. My thoughts were "It is better to do this and hardly ever watch it than not do it and wish that we had."
