How much is too much??

My FI and I make a homemade mustard and can it every year that we use as gifts that the family loves.  We have decided to use this as our favors since our wedding is country chic and this keeps with the theme.  My question is do I get 8oz canning jars and give them to all 50 people comming (most are couples with a few kids thrown in) or do I give 8 oz jars to couples only?  My other thought was to give out 4oz jars to everyone. I really didn't want to spend a lot of money on the favors as we weren't going to have any at first untill my FI suggested this idea.  Any help or suggestions would be great.  And maybe I'm over thinking all this...lol

  • We're doing wine and it is similar....regular size bottles are just easier and less expensive.  We will have one bottle per couple/single person/family.  I think one mustard per is fine if it is 8oz.  We will also attach the escord card to the wine bottle with all the names associated with the wine bottle and have these at the escort card table to eliminate confusion on who gets what or having some tables look "skimpy" if they were pre-placed on tables.

Now what would you do if you're not doing escort cards?  I was thinking about having a basket of the mustard and just handing it out to guest as we go from table to table.  I also just thought about having a sign that just simple says from one happy couple to another happy couple.  Of course there are those who may not get it and take 2 per family.

Just do one per person and set the jars out on a favor table. You can always use the leftovers yourself.

Remember to put the ingredients list on the jar, as so many people have food sensitivities and allergies nowadays!
  • Are you having assigned tables?  Assigned seats are not necessary but assigned tables are highly recommended.  FI and I went to a wedding of 40-50 people and by the time we got to sitting down there wasn't a table left with seating for the both of us.  It was quickly handled, but it was very awkward.  If you are doing assigned tables you can place the correct number on the table and just not worry about the  very minor issue of different numbers of bottles at the different tables.
  • I'd do the 4oz jars and give one to each guest.  I don't like mustard so I'd leave mine but I'm sure others would enjoy it.

we aren't doing assigned seating only because the majority of the people are going to be family and very close friends who all know each other.  We are having the ceremony at the same site as the reception and it's ment for people to mingle around as it is both inside and outside.  We are having a bbq but it's just find a seat as you wish.  I have already made up 50 labels with the ingredients so I'm covered there.  Thanks for all your advise!
