Asking for registry items for holidays?

Want some opinions on this topic.

We are planning a fall wedding for 2014. My fiance's family is BIG into gift giving. You can get a gift "just because" in his family, which I don't mind, but I feel imposing. My fiance wants to tell people when they ask what to get us as gifts for our birthdays/other holidays that are shortly before or shortly after, to look at the registry and buy gifts off of it. Personally, I think it would be ok, but I am unsure about the etiquette of it and I do not want to come off as rude or imposing to my future in-laws.

Any thoughts?

  • Agree with Retread.  If people are asking what you want, that's a perfect place to direct them.  However, you might not want to register that early for a fall 2014 wedding-be careful because many things may be discontinued by the time people are buying for your shower or wedding.
  • I agree too. We made our registry before this past Christmas and I got quite a few items off of our registry.

  • We are planning on going to the stores with our registry guns the first weekend in December. And then tell people for our birthdays and christmas that we just want things off our registry :) Thanks guys, you give such good advice! Love "The Knot".

We did this as well. We made sure that a majority of our list was done around Christmas and had nothing that we wanted other than that. Everyone knew that we were moving back in together and needed stuff and just got things off that.
