In-store VS Online

Hey ladies! So, my fiance and I orginially began registering in-store and after a day of checking into the stores, we were completely overwhelmed!!
We ended up editing our lists BIG time online. I noticed that when I went to check-in on the list this week, some of the gifts are being bought.

Just to see, I checked local availability and a lot of the stuff isn't available in my area - only online. I'm concerned that people are going to feel limited on what they have to get, if they are shopping close to the shower date. However, we don't want to "settle" or just say we want things just because they are available around here.

Has anyone every had this problem? Is it ok to have things that are only available online?

Most of our stuff was bought online, actually, so I would say it's fine.  Honestly if you are registering this late, I would just leave it and see.  As long as there are some in-store options it will be fine.  Just be prepared to receive some items that are similar but not the same as what you registered for, if one item is available in-store and the other isn't.  If this happens, then you can decide how much you care about the particular version you registered for and either exchange it or keep the one you actually got.  I originally approached this thinking we would exchange anything we got that was similar but not the same - but some of the differences are so minor that it's not worth driving to the nearest mall to mess with it.  That said, you're in Boston so you probably won't get as many boxed gifts as we did.  My circle gives boxed gifts for both the shower and the wedding, so we have like 100 boxes sitting around the living room right now.  Exchanging every single thing that isn't exactly perfect is overwhelming.  You will probably have a smaller capacity to deal with, since NE tends to give cash at weddings.

  • I did have that problem. I was NOT looking forward to registering b/c my husband was at work out of state and I had to do it w/o him,  so I tried to just do it online (we used Target), and so much stuff was only available online when I did it that way. I ended up having to go to the store to register.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks ladies! I'd say about half of the stuff is available in-stores, half online. We registered in December, so it's not last minute but we've obviously had to update and refresh our lists. I appreciate all the advice and input!!! :)
  • We made sure we had a decent amount of items available in store.  I always buy shower gifts from a store (I only buy online when I need to ship a gift).  Most of my family members (especially those a generation or 2 older) prefer buying in stores.  Also, alot of people don't buy gifts until just a few days before the shower, so online is not an option.  I'd make sure you have a decent amount available in store.
