Elopement Gift?

Do you give a gift when people elope? I know traditionally, people wouldn't, but I'm just curious what others do. My friend is getting married today (surprise!), and I feel like I should do something! Btw, they are out of town, so I would think about taking them out for dinner or something, but that will have to wait until we see them next!

  • You can always give a gift if you want.  If a close friend of mine eloped, I would probably give something.  You could send a congratulatory card and say that you cannot wait to take them out to dinner to celebrate.  You could also send a restaurant GC so they could go out for a nice dinner, or go with a more traditional wedding-type present.
  • i was suppose to be in my dear friends wedding but they decided to cancel it and elope.. i am giving them a gift! i mean i know some people wouldnt but i love celebrating events like this and want to shower them with something despite not having a traditional wedding
  • As long as she is not asking for gifts (which is seems like she isnt) than I think its okay to give her a gift! she did get married after all. That is worth celebrating! I think its nice of you to still want to give her a gift. I agree with the PP about sending a card & saying something like "we cant wait to take you out to dinner next time we see each other"  or sending her a gift card for them to go out to dinner or do something fun together.
