A year in advance, maximum. 6-9 months out is fine, if you can wait. Relationships change, so no need to rush into a decision.

  • Ditto. You wouldn't believe how many poor girls post here about ab unexpected relationship change stressing them the heck out with an early bridal party selection. You cannot revoke the title once you offer it without massive insult.

  • Wait until about late summer to start asking.  9 months out is plenty of time, and that will give you an opportunity to make some general decisions about wedding planning before you decide on a wedding party.

In the meantime, when people bring it up, say something like "we just got engaged last month; it's too early to have made all those decisions yet" or "we're still mulling it over" and change the subject.
  • I am getting married this May, and I belive I asked them in August. However, two are our sisters, one is mine, and one is his, and then the third BM is a good friend. So I totally get what other girls are saying about relationship dynamics can change.
  • I think end of summer is good, unless it's a destination wedding where they may need more time to save up or arrange for vacation time for the trip. You won't have anything you need them to do between now and then. Plus most women won't want to go dress shopping yet because we're all "I want to lose a few pounds before I order the dress." If you want to go dress shopping for yourself & invite them along, go for it.

On how to answer, how is your MOH & bridal party. "We're enjoying being engaged at the moment and haven't gotten to that detail yet."
