Wedding Party Color Help

Hi there! I am having an outdoor Fall wedding and my colors are a dark purple, burgundy, and burnt orange. The burnt orange is only an accent color and will mainly be found in the decor (pumpkins, napkins, flowers, etc). I need some advice on wedding party colors.

I had originally wanted to do the bridal party (including my fiance) in the purple and accent with the burgundy, but my fiance just brought up another idea that I sort of like. He's been pretty involved in the whole planning process. :)

He suggested that we do the bridal party (MOH, Bridesmaids, and groomsmen) in the purple with little bits of burgundy (flowers, sash, hair pieces) and then do the opposite for me and him. I'm wearing a sash with my dress, so it would be burgundy. We would also do his tie and vest in the burgundy and accent his boutineer with the purple.

What do you think? Is that too many colors? I guess it's really only 2 colors. I'm just worried that having us in the burgundy and everyone else in the purple will look weird. However, I want him to stand out from the groomsmen. In so many wedding photos that I've seen, the only way to tell which one is the groom is by his placement in the photo.

I have added a photo from the David's Bridal simulator below to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Please note that these are not the dresses or the actual colors. I am about 95% sure that I'm going with the dresses here: http://www.jordanfashions.com/123. I'd do the dress in Aubergine and the underlay in Chianti.

The red in the tie and vest look sort of pink in the photo for some reason and it's throwing me off. :( In real life, I'd be sure to choose a vest/tie combo that matches the Jordan Chianti. The groomsmen vests/ties would match the Aubergine.

Give me your thoughts on this, ladies. Thank you.

  • It looks very nice.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Should be fine. FWIW, the colored vests thing is trending out in my area. Most often, the groomsmen wear basic black vests and the groom wears a white or silver vest. The GM don't need to be matchy matchy with the bridesmaids. So that's another option for your FI to consider.

[QUOTE]I don't care for colored vests and matching colored ties. It looks too HS prom to me. So I would suggest black ties for all the men. But that is a personal preference. Otherwise, I think it looks fine.

I agree with this. The way we did it was black vests for all the men with our accent color in a striped tie. But otherwise I think it sounds lovely.
