I Lost Weight and My Lose The Dress Too! YAY and BOO!!

I had my gown at the shop where I purchased for a little over a year now.  I picked it up last week in preparation for setting up my initial alteration appointment.   I've been working out like a maniac for the past two years and my concern about my gown was the amount of alterations I would need as a result of my weight loss.

I tried the gown on over the weekend and I did not have to zip it up to get in it.  I literally stepped in the dress still zipped and pulled it up.  It dropped off of me!  There's nothing to hold it up.  YAY I guess but BOO too as that means a whole lot of alterations.

I called the seamstress I plan to use and she said come in ASAP.  Her fear is that there may be too much alterations needed due to my weight loss and I had the nerve to tell her I am not done.  I still plan on losing another 10 lbs by the end of this month.

Anyone else lose a lot of weight and are worried about their gown?  My seamstress says there is a possibility that my gown will be ruined if an excessiave amount of alterations is needed.

I worked really hard to get where I am and I feel like I messed up somehow. :(

  • Congratulations on the weight lose. If your seamstress really knows what she's doing she won't ruin your dress. I hope everything works out ok for you. keep us posted.

  • Thanks ladies.  The dress has simple lines with no beading.  So I am thinking it will be ok ( I hope).  :)

This. Congrats on the weight loss
  • Congrats on your weight loss, I'm sure it can be fixed if the seamstress knows what she is doing. The same happened with me in my BM dress for my BFF wedding. The lady took my measurements all wrong so when the dress came back basically 2 people could fit in it it was strapless so yeah basically it was like a sheet around me. My mom took it to a seamstress she knew and it was good as new, she did a magnificant job, so it can be fixed.
  • GIRL!!!! CONGRATS!!! Keep doing your thing!!

as others have said... if she knows what she is doing.. I pray she will "make it work"..haha..

Hope you can post some before and after pics of you... I love the motivation of others losing weight.. keeps me going... Laughing

  • @Lecia B - It was a brand new sample gown that the salon.  I got a fabulous price on it because the salon decided to no longer carry the designer.  It was a one and only.

@drmass2013 - Yes this seamstress is highly recommended and apparently does amazing work.  My WP loves her to death.  So if it can be done, she is the one.

@nursing2, @keysmit-  I have always run from the camera but if I can muster up some photo before the weight loss I will post my before and after pics.  I promise.  :)

@keysmit - This has been a two year journey.  I took up exercising at least 3 to 5 times a week for at least 60 minutes each session.  I started with Zumba, Pilates, and a Boot Camp class for my first three months.  I dropped all but Zumba.  I just added a Body Blast class for toning which I plan on taking three times a week up thru 5/31.  Between that class and Zumba I hope to lose the last 10 lbs.  I would have lost a total of 40lbs.

Oh and also I cut back on sweets and I added lots of protein into my diet (chicken and fish).  Red meat is rare.  I keep to a minimum white items (bread, rice, etc.) .  I also try to drink as much water as I can during the day.  Finally, I try not to eat after 7pm and I now make it a point to eat breakfast which I didn't do before.

@All - Thanks for all the comments.

<div>Congrats! I lost an unexpected amount of weight because of my thyroid issues. And yes, it cost me an arm and a leg to have my dress altered. If my dress wasn't living in Arizona and me in STL, I probably would have considered selling that dress and getting a new one. But I was short on time and thank God she was that good that I fitted my dress on a Saturday and she got it done by that next Thursday for my Friday wedding.  Mine was expensive because of all the bead work that was on my dress. Not only did my seamstress have to take in the sides but she had to re-do all of the beading on the side. She also had to reshape the side of the dress under the arm because where the front and the back met, it no longer matched because she had to take in that much of my dress. In the end I actually didn't get my hem done because I ran out of money..lol. But it can be done! Good luck!</div>

</div><div>Your seamstress must have been the bomb to get all the work you described done and done well in that short turnaround time.  I don't have any beading to worry about but you scared me on the cost part.  LOL!
