Need Halloween Wedding Costume Ideas!!

My fiance and I have decided on a Costume reception!!  We are trying to brain storm costumes that would be simple and quick to transform from ceremony to reception.  We were also thinking of famous couples so we wouldn't have to change.. For example; anyone that has seen Oz yet, the Wizard wears a suit and top hat and the Good Witch of the North wears a white dress that could easily be a brides gown.  I also tried on a red and white bridal gown, that could easily be made into the Queen of Hearts...And my fiance can be the Mad Hatter.  I also tried on a beautiful wedding gown...that in yellow looks like Belle....but fiance not too thrilled with the Beast idea. haha   Although I like the idea of the Bride of Frankenstein...the hair might be a bit much for the ceremony! lol   We would REALLY appreciate any costume ideas.  Thanks for your help :)

Re: Need Halloween Wedding Costume Ideas!!

  • He doesn't have to be the post-transformation Beast.  He could be the prince at the end!

There are so many awesome ideas, it is hard to narrow it down.  I'm a history nut, that I always love historical costumes, like victorian dresses (or medieval, like I'm doing for my medieval wedding).

I like your idea of famous couples from the movies!  You'd have to make sure it was a romantic and not tragic couple though . . .

  • Thanks!  I love the historical idea as well!  Do you have your dress picked out?  There is  a magazine, I think called Pyramid Collections that has really pretty and inexpensive gowns. There is some "new age" and gothic thngs, but I have seen breathtaking gowns if it helps.  I was also thinking of ordering a nice cape from them in the event I need to create a costume with my wedding dress :)

We are still thinking of OZ and the Witch of the North... but I need more bride like ideas.  I would be willing to wear a red, black, blue, or even green dress as long as it is "bride-like"  Scarlett O'Hara's green dress came to mind... My Fiance could pull of Rhett... Need more ideas though :)

  • THANK YOU!! This is so helpful.  I accidentally posted my above email on the "regular" wedding blog, and you wouldn't believe how mean and rude some people are.  I was just looking for some ideas.  Thank you so much for sharing :)
  • THE PRINCESS BRIDE MIGHT BE AN IDEA!!!  :)
  • I'm sorry you were met by rude people on the regular wedding boards! Some people have a specific idea of what a "wedding" means and nothing else can be allowed to infringe upon that idea.

Feel free to post here during your planning process since we LOVE unique and offbeat wedding ideas. We'll tell you if something you're planning to do is against etiquette/considered rude but we're much more open to nontraditional wedding ideas.

I think The Princess Bride could work amazingly for your wedding!

Good luck! Your wedding sounds like it will be very fun!!
  • My wedding is Alice in Wonderland themed.  While I am not wearing costumes- the attire for fiance and I are subtleties of the story characters.  My dress will be ivory polka dot organza tea-length with a purple-blue sash and he will be wearing a grey tux suitable for the era of Lewis Carroll- He wants the top hat like the mad hatter but I think we will be reserving that for post-ceremony and pics :)  If not an entire costume maybe you could do subtle hints of characters?
