NWR: Latest Update from Married Life :P

Sorry ladies, I haven't been on much as of late. With a change in my position at work, some personal stuff going on and rescuing our new pup its been crazy busy as of late!

Just a quick update. I know I have talked about my pup Daviana on here before, she's a German Shepherd/Weimaraner and is totally my baby. Well DH wanted a male dog in the house (all our pets were female, we have 2 female cats too) so we went on the search for the 'right dog'. We ended up adopting from Ohio (we live in Ontario, Canada) and getting Indiana aka Indy a German Shepherd/Retreiver. He and Dav are like long lost best friends right from the beginning which is great :)

So that's my quick update, and for the dog lovers here is a picture :)

  • That's very cool!  German Shepherd/Retriever sounds like a great mix!  And I'm sure your husband will be happy to have a fellow male in the house!
Out of curiosity, why did you adopt from Ohio?  I'm hoping to adopt pets in the near future, and I also live in Ontario - was it hard to find a dog that was the right match?

  • There are a couple reasons we went to Ohio. One was looking for the 'right dog' for us. We wanted atleast part German Shephard, male, ages like 9 months to a year and a half (he was 1 year 1 month), good with dogs, cats and kids... so that's a pretty tall order to fill!

The other reason though is the fact that kill rates in Ontario are MUCH lower... most of our shelters have gone non kill (or atleast they have down my way in Ontario lol). That's not the case in the US AT ALL!!!! So we decided we'd rather rescue from the US, which allows that rescue to pull another dog and give them a chance.

Thanks for the info!  I'll keep that in mind when I have my house and can fill it with animals (probably mostly rabbits - I'm so excited to have more than one again!)

  • If you want a good rescue to look into, I had an AMAZING experience with Animal House Rescue just outside Toledo, OH. You get to talk directly to the foster parents that are caring for the pet which is GREAT to find out the pet's temperment, etc.
There are also volunteer organizations that will arrange transport of a pet to their forever home too :) Although we didn't bother because it really wasn't that far of a drive for us in the grand scheme of things lol
