First dance at a no dance reception?

I really want to have dancing, but unfortunately there won't be much room. And if we are able it will only be room for a small amount of people at a time. But I really want to have a first dance! Would it be weird/rude to have a first dance and no other dancing? I've heard mixed reviews.

  • Did you talk to your DOC or Venue Manager or Catering Manager about moving some items out of the room after cutting the cake? Not chairs or tables, but maybe food service tables, cake display table, and then pushing tables and chairs to the side more?  This could allow for some basic dancing. This is what we are likely doing.

  • I've never been to a wedding with no dancing.   Honestly, even a small , crammed dance floor is better than no dancing.     I second the suggestion of seeing if you can have stuff removed after eating to make room for dancing.
