Mad lib Guest book

I found the mad lib guest book idea from a few places and loved it so I changed it and created my own version that I can print myself and I already have an idea how to put them in a keepsake binder/book but what do I do with them at the reception?  I want everyone to fill one out (funnier that way I think)  - someone somewhere (can't remember where) was planning on placing it in a folded napkin but unless you can somehow fold a 8x8 colored napkin to hold a quarter of a regular sized sheet of paper it will not fit into my budget.  Also the venue has only white napkins and tablecloths (having them get more would cost me more) and the cardstock I planned to use is white (cheaper too)...  I am looking for a cheap but nice way to display them at each place setting for like 125 people.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

maybe use a place card/table card holder if I can find some that are DIY with everyday materials?

Re: Mad lib Guest book

  • I wouldn't bother with this. I don't typically bring a pen with me to a wedding.  I doubt many peope do.  So, if you had them at each place setting you'd also need a pen for everyone.
  • I would set them up on a side table during the cocktail hour.

Most of your guests are not going to want to participate in something like this.  Putting it at the place setting makes it feel like a child's party game that everyone will be compelled to play.
  • I was planning on putting pens on the table in a decorated box or yes markers.  I don't want a guest book that they just sign their name and maybe write "congratulations" it is too boring and typical.  I want something that is funny and happy and NOT the normal!  a few of the "older" people may not do it but I have several people who will do it that are my parents age and some older...

What else would you suggest then?

    <div>Personally, I'd skip it.  It doesn't seem appropriate for a wedding.  Maybe a shower.</div><div>
</div><div>We didn't do a guest book either.  Or anything signed.  I rather look back on photos than a signature in a book or on a plate or whatever.</div>
  • be prepared for "first grade toilet humor" if you have younger (mid 20s) male guests or family jokesters.  I know a lot of people in that age range that still find fart jokes and poop funny topics and no circumstance inappropriate for one.

I was just thinking this, so I'm glad you said it!

OP, I don't think this whole mad-libs thing will turn out nearly as heartfelt and hilariously creative as you think it will. Sorry.

I have to agree.  This sounds too cutesy and gimmicky for me to believe that people will take it in its intended spirit.
  • If we would have done something other than just a sign in book, we would have made a photo book and asked guests to sign the margins.  It's kind of high school yearbook, but at least it's something you can display.

But honestly, it doesn't matter what you do.  You really aren't going to look at the guest book more than once after the wedding.
