Who decorates reception venue?

So I don't consider myself a Bridezilla by any means!!....however...hehe

Who is supposed to decorate the reception hall the day of the wedding? I know the caterer is in charge of most of it, but I truly just don't trust them to make the room look how I want it. Yes, I'm that girl that would just rather do things myself...however, that is obviously not an option for this instance. Any insight? I guess I'm mostly referring to lighting and centerpieces....and potentially linens to hang around the venue...

Help!!

Thank you!

Re: Who decorates reception venue?

  • I hired a company to decorate my venue. They're doing all of the linens, centrepieces, flowers, sweetheart table, reception line table, cake table, and chair covers.

</div><div>Our venue coordinator took care of all of the setup for us.  Though I believe the florist actually put the floral centerpieces on the table when she made the delivery.  Everything looked beautiful.  If you are that concerned, perhaps you should hire a DOC.

    • FMIL, FSIL, a few of my BM's, and MOH, along with myself and probably 4-5 other ladies will be decorating our venue together.  We are however, renting a barn that is allowing us to come in 3-4 days before hand and start putting stuff up. We will probably do a final walk through of the place before heading to the church for rehearsal dinner that Friday to make any final touches, make sure stuff didn't fall down or whatever, then be good to go.

    • Give the caterer as many pictures, sketches of how you want things to be on the tables, and verbal direction, and see if maybe they could send you a picture or two of how things might look?  Maybe one of the servers or staff coming with him could do that for you, if asking the caterer to do it would be to much.

  • Our venue coordinator and florist decorated ours.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • The venue handled linens. My florist set up the centerpieces. Myself and My DOC spent all of 10 minutes putting out the table numbers, escort cards, and candles.

If a vendor is providing the decor, such as a florist, lighting company, linens, etc-then it is their job to set up/tear down. However anything you purchase yourself, it is YOUR responsibility to set it up, or hire someone to do it for you.

  • The venue and the florist handled most of it, but my bridesmaids and an aunt set up our escort card table, put out the table numbers, set up our "guest book" table, etc. I honestly wanted to do it myself, too, so I could see it, but with a morning ceremony and not being able to get into the venue until a couple hours before, there just wasn't time for me to do it and get my hair done, so my besties volunteered. If there had been more than just setting a few things out, I would have hired someone.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Does your caterer know that you think they're in charge of most of the decorating of the reception hall?

Our florist and her team got to the venue early and decorated. My mom volunteered to head over immediately after family photos to make sure it was how we wanted it.

If you don't want to pay a professional team, then you and FI do it (if family or friends VOLUTEER to help, they can, but you should not tell or expect anyone to help for free). If this is the case, see if you can get in your venue a day early to set up. This is what my friend did who decorated her own reception venue; she went over before the rehearsal for a few hours and got things set up.

  • You either do it yourself, or hire someone.

I was prepared to do it myself, but my awesome family insisted on pitching in.  They were put out by the idea that I wasn't originally planning on having them help.  I graciously accepted, did my fair share of the work, and treated them to lunch afterwards (it was the day before the wedding).

  • Our DOC and venue staff did ours.  Do not expect your family and friends to do it.  That's such an imposition, even though they'll pretend they don't mind.

If you want to do it yourself, see if you can get in the day before.  You probably won't have time to do it the day of the wedding.
  • I think the bigger question is who do you think is going to clean up?
  • The venue coordinator, florist and our DOC will be handling set-up.
