Museum Wedding

Hi All,

We have just picked our ceremony and reception site for our wedding! We are getting married on the grounds of the Grand Rapids Public Museum and having our reception inside in June 2014.

I'm trying to think of creative ways to incorporate the "museum theme" for our decorations, save the dates, invitations, etc. Not anything over the top, just really subtle touches.

It is a History and Science museum, so there's not a lot of paintings, etc. It's more like fossils and the history of Grand Rapids.

Any thoughts?

Museum weddings are cool.   You could use slate or other decorative rocks in your wedding centerpieces as filler for the vases.   One friend had long tables and created a runner of rocks with big dahlias in picks hidden in the rocks.   She used dark grey marble chips from Home Depot washed to remove dust in flat wood trays and then picked the dahlias from her yard, her mom's yard and her grandma's yard.

I can't think of any way to do it that wouldn't be over-the-top, so I'd just plan a wedding to the appropriate formality of the museum and let it go at that.

Sounds like a wonderful venue! 

I'm imagining colors like ivory and black, and maybe some subtle historical touches, like using old-looking papers. 

Is the facade of the building really cool? Maybe for Save the Dates, you could take photos there? Highlight any architectural features.
