Reception Entrance

Hi,
I'm confused about the reception entrance.  I've never been to a wedding that had one.  I feel like it's weird to have music while the DJ is anouncing the bridal party.  And I've seen the entrances for the bride and groom where they are announced and then do a little dance to the music.  But I feel like it will be an awkward transition too.  Then what?  What do you do after you're announced?  Do you sit for a minute and then have dinner,  or do you just jump in line for the buffet, or maybe talk to people while tables are being released and the eat last?  We do plan on having our first dance after dinner, so that wouldn't work for  putting after the entrance. What did everyone else do?

Re: Reception Entrance

  • I've always seen it that the couple does their first dance right after the entrance.  That way they've "opened the dance floor" and people can feel comfortable dancing.  If you wait until after dinner, nobody will dance at all until after dinner.
You don't have to do the entrance if you don't want to- it's not a requirement.

  • After our entrance, the DJ introduced the best man to do his speech. Then we had a brief blessing, and then we ate dinner. (We did the first dance after dinner, and while no one danced until after dinner, we also weren't particularly expecting them to either.) It worked just fine for us, but there are scads of different ways to go about this one.
  • We used an instrumental piece (Deadmau5 - Brazil) for our wedding party and our entrance.  we then did our first dance and parent dances.  then cut the cake. then we did toasts/dinner.  it worked out quite well. =)

<div>Our reception entrance was the parents, then bridal party, then us.  Then we went straight into our first dance.  Then parent dances, toasts and dinner.  I've never seen a first dance after dinner.  Couldn't you just switch it up and do it after being announced?  It seems like it would flow better.  </div>

I think this is a great idea!
  • Ok. Thanks for the ideas!  I'm thinking we might just skip it.
