Confess...

Re: Confess...

  • I am not really a music person at all. I listen to contemporary Christian and country in the car sometimes (but I listen to Catholic radio a ton lately). I am happy to listen to other people's music (unless/until it offends me -- I'm looking at you rap), but I don't, like, think to turn it on while I'm working or in the kitchen or whatever, so if I'm not in a "driving a lot" phase of life, I am not in a music listening phase either.

Interestingly, though, I cannot drive in silence. Ever. It drives me bananas and stresses me out. Even when I'm in a new city in a traffic jam in the rain, there has to be something playing in the car.

Resa, I watched the first few seasons of Orange County and New York. I even watched the first season of New Jersey. It was totally my guilty pleasure. Then Theresa flipped the table on that New Jersey episode and it seems like the whole franchise's "drama" quotient was increased exponentially. From there, it got harder and harder to stomach until I just can't watch anymore.

  • Yeah Teresa is CRAZY.  But I just love it.  I can't get enough.

Carrie, I am with you....I will just chat on the sidelines!  H's family forces me to bowl and I hate it, and then they try to give me super obvious pointers until I'm like "no s***, I'm aiming for center guys...I know it looks like I just don't understand the concept of the game, but I assure you I do...I'm just not athletically inclined."

  • I'm not a huge sports person either, the most I usually do is end up playing some bean bags or horseshoes with H's family on the 4th of July.  Although, growing up my family did play some pretty intense and competitive kickball games - I don't think we ever finished a game without someone crying or getting in a yelling match... we haven't played for years now, so it might be time to revisit that now that we're all older, and some have spouses to even out the teams a bit :)

  • First of all - I like playing sports!  I don't know how I would live without my Tuesday night soccer games!

I despise alcohol, with the exception of Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade, Midori Sours, and Riesling.

Now that House is off the air, I really only watch trashy reality television shows.  I'm a neuroscience PhD candidate, so I spend all day being academic and analytical.  When I get home, I want to zone out and not think.

I love eating, but I hate cooking.

Speaking of which, if I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be eel and cucumber maki.

  • I get irriationally annoyed when people ask me if I eat fish, because "some vegetarians eat fish."  No, they don't...some people call themselves vegetarians when they're actually pescatarians, but no...vegetarians don't eat fish.

This is hilarious - my sister ran into this same thing with her boyfriend's mom, who just wouldn't believe that my  sister doesn't eat fish even as a vegetarian, because she read on the internet that some vegetarians eat fish... you know how they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true :)
  • The truth is, I've always hated fish/seafood.  I would eat tuna sandwiches, but salmon or shrimp, etc.....I hate it all.  Always have.   So even if I weren't a vegetarian, I still wouldn't eat it.

  • Resa, on that note, we've got two friends who switched to a pescatarian diet for health reasons, but they'd been telling everyone they were vegetarians.  So DH and I wanted to have them over for games one night, and decided we'd just invite them for AFTER dinner, because we were having salmon and didn't want to be like, "Oh we're cooking but you can't eat."  So then they asked us if they could bring over some smoked salmon and we were like, "Wait... what?!"

The wife explained that they always say "vegetarian" because apparently they've had a lot of people think they say they're Presbyterian and they wanted to avoid confusion.

  • Hahahaha Presbyterian...that's a cute story.  I love it!

  • LOL -- great story, Prof!

I "hear" that there are vegetarians (which pretty much incorporates the whole range from "no red meat" to nearly vegan) and vegans. It boggles the mind how we lack appreciation for nuance (and vocabulary!) in this society.

I am just starting to eat more fish. We have recently decided to eliminate meat on all Friday, so the normal Lenten options get old quickly (plus, I need the protein), so that has me branching out more. I still need something -- a sauce, a pile of mashed potatoes, some ketchup Wink, to help it down. I'm getting better, though! Still, I can totally pass on shellfish. Unless it's clam chowder. Then, YUM!

  • I am another person that does not like olives.  I also am not a fan of potatoes unless they are mashed or french fries.  I also don't like ketchup.  And where I live people eat mozzarella sticks with raspberry sauce which I think is weird and then people here think I am weird.  I also don't put milk in my cereal.  And my eggs have to be fully cooked, including the yoke.

I refuse to watch Harry Potter or LOTR.  I don't like Sci-Fi or Fantasy at all.

  • Eeek. What's with all the hate on olives? I LOVE olives. I could eat them all day! Except not the black kind that comes sliced in a can. If those are the olives to which you are referring, I can sympathise.

One thing I do HATE though (which is unusual considering the area that I grew up in) is country music. I can't stand it. The one strange exception is Rascal Flatts. I don't know why I like them. I think it's their harmonies.

  • As far as opinions go, I usually keep them to myself because I really don't like to argue.

Guilty pleasures are eating dessert, curling up with a good book on the couch and pretending like I have nothing to do.

I hate grocery shopping. However, I love to cook. If someone could just buy the things I need I would be happy.
