Invitation Question-Confirmation Name

HI ladies, I'm in need of your expertise.  For those of you who took a Confirmation name, did you have it printed on your invitations?  I feel like this is the only opportunity I'll really have to use my first, middle, and Confirmation names, so I wasn't sure if this is typically done or not.  How about your last names (yours and FI)?  Our parents names will not be on our invitations, if that helps.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Invitation Question-Confirmation Name

  • I've never seen an invitation with a confirmation name included, but that doesn't mean you couldn't do it.

If you're not including your parents' names I would imagine it would look a little like:

    BrideFirst Middle Last
    and
    GroomFirst Middle Last

    Request the honor blahblahblah

I don't see anything wrong with throwing your confirmation name in there, especially if you feel really strongly about it or really connected to the saint whose namesake you chose.

  • Neither of us took confirmation names, so I'm not sure about that.  We did include both of our last names on the invitation - it was very similar to what Professor gave as an example above.
  • hm, I have never seen that before.

  • I recall a poster who was, I believe Vietnamese, told me that culturally, they included their confirmation names along with the others. That's the only time I've ever heard of it. Unless it is something that is commonly done in your circle/family/culture/whatever, I think people would be confused. I know I would be, and this is coming from someone who knows people who consider their confirmation patrons (and in one case, baptismal name) as part of their names/identities.

  • never seen it on an invite.

i thought you had to take a confirmation name?
  • Yeah, we were given an option of keeping our name or choosing another.  I think it's way more common for adults in RCIA than for kids.

  • Thank you for your insight!  I didn't recall seeing this before and it was something I was pondering.  I think my name may get a bit long if I include it so I'll likely just stick with First/Middle/Last.
    Thank you!
  • Eastern Cathokics don't have confirmation names because they receive the sacrament at the time of baptism. They receive the Eucharist as well. An invitation for a colleague's wedding last year included her confirmation name. I assumed it was cultural, as her heritage is Mexican, and I had never seen it on an invitation before.

  • Okay, I'm the odd one out. I put my confirmation name on our invites. I don't remember the wording of the invite but when it got to my name it was  First Name Middle Name Confirmation Name.

  • I  only know of one person who uses their confirmation name and it's because he name is really not unique and she like the cadence it gives her name when she says it with her Texas accent.

It was you! I couldn't remember your exact username, but I definitely remember you, because you were also on my month board, though I wasn't a big poster over there. Thanks for coming over and sharing -- I love that your faith is such a big part of your culture.

You should pop in and say hi when you visit every few weeks. :) Also, I see that you have a little on on the way. *hugs and Congratulations! Being a mom is just the best!
