DJ help

Hey guys! Long time no talk. I have been MIA on the wedding planning front and am now kicking it into full gear!

Which brings me to my question: Does anyone have or know of a DJ that they absolutely love? I am having a hard time just picking one from the internet, and I live in DC so I can't go see them work. I am looking for someone with a wide selection of music (FI and I have WAY different taste in tunes), and who is professional but still fun.  Any recommendations?

Well My wedding is a ways off but my Fi and I just booked Andy Booth who does come highly recommended around here (the knot) and I know there are some knotties who have had him as their dj so you could ask them about him. We met with him and absolutely loved him! He was great. We booked him that day.

    Hey,

A list of recommended DJs is here:  http://sites.google.com/site/pghknotties/vendors

I'm sure people will chime in with their personal rec's, but Andy Booth, JJ Dellaria (who works with Andy), Jodi Colella, Andy Hutelmeyer, and Jeremy Ganss all seem to get recommended the most.

The price range of those DJs is from 700-2000 for a 5hr reception...so definitely think about your budget and then call around to them.

I hear ya on having a hard time choosing..I'm on the DJ hunt currently as well.

md basically said everything! lol - Just wanted to add that I booked Mark Zini for my May '11 - so far, he's been fantastic!

It is definitely a good idea to get your budget down first (as md said) since there is a wide range on pricing - and then go from there! Best of luck!

We used Jeremy G for our reception and we loved him including DH who normally is a semi-music snob lol. And like you and your FI, our music tastes are exact opposites! He played a great mix during the dinner portion of the reception and was just fantastic the whole evening. He's on the pricier side but it was one of the best decisions we made.

    Good luck!

I have seen (heard?) Andy Hutelmeyer in the flesh at a wedding in October. He was pretty fantastic. He did lose power in the middle of the reception, but was back up and running a few seconds later. I believe his price was quite reasonable as well. Andy Booth is rec'd a ton, and my photog is a fan of Bill Bara.

We are using Andy Booth and are so excited about it.  We saw him in action at a friend's wedding in September.  He was absolutely amazing!!  He kept people dancing all night long.

Pittsburgh September Siggy - Our honeymoon will be at the Royal Suites Turquesas in P*nta Cana. Super excited!

I've booked Les Holliday.  I haven't seen him in person but my parents know him and have been to a few weddings he has done - said he was extremely professional but kept everyone on their feet.  His prices were also reasonable I thought.  www.holliday-productions.com

We had Andy Booth as our DJ, and words cannot describe what an awesome guy he is to work with.  I was an out of state bride in the beginning, then to become and out of town bride...and he worked so well with me during the entire process!  Everyone LOVED his personality and his music choices were perfect!!  I could not highly recommend him enough!!

We booked Bill Bara for our 4/21/12 wedding. I have worked with him (I'm a photog) and he is fantastic! He keeps the dance floor packed all night, and having seen soooo many weddings with part time DJ's that just can't connect with guests, we knew he was our DJ! :)

We're using DJ Bill Bara. He is super easy to work with and DJs in a lot of the the local Pittsburgh bars. We wanted a young, up-to-date DJ so our reception would really feel like a party, and we found him. Also, because he DJs at bars, it gives you the opportunity to go and listen to his work. You can't do this with most wedding DJs because they only do private events which you are not able to attend. Bill was also happy to give me references of previous brides that I contacted on my own and everyone raved about him.
