Sangeet HELP!

Hi everyone. We just booked out Hindu wedding venue for July 2014 at Electra
Cruises in Newport Beach. We are having a really hard time finding a reasonably priced venue for out Sangeet/Mendi party. I would love some pointers! Thanks!

Re: Sangeet HELP!

  • I'm not familiar with Sangeet/Mendi parties so I don't know if there are any requirements for these. I tried to google them, but am a little overwhelmed since there is SO much information about them.

If you let us know what you are looking for or any traditional requirements of the venue that would help a lot!

For the Sangeet we will need a space for dancing, food, speeches and a bar. Thanks for your help.

  • Hmmm.... We used UCI Student Center Ballrooms and loved it. They were very helpful and great setting everything up. The downside is that they require you to use their catering. They might have a clause to allow you to bring outside food since it is traditional to that culture though. We had a dry wedding. They do allow alcohol, but not sure how it is set up.

Here are some links to older posts about venues: (I'm not sure how many people you are having or if you would like to bring in your own food and drinks!)

  • Good luck in your search! If you think about it, when you find somewhere you should come back and post about it so others looking for a similar venue can consider it!

  • So far I have relized it is not a good idea to book it at a restaurant, most of them have an outrageous minimum to spent. My average quote for 100 people at a restaurant has been 10K! We are spending about that on the whole wedding ceremony and reception!

  • Geez! That is a huge minimum!

I don't know how much you want to DIY, but community centers have a relatively low cost to reserve. The downside is you have to bring everything in yourself.

I know the Newland Barn in Huntington Beach is insanely popular, but you have to bring everything in yourself on that too. But at least it looks nicer on the inside so you don't need to go overboard on the decorations.

  • Marriott Suites in Garden Grove is fairly reasonable and the catering manager has expierence with Indian weddings.  Good luck.
